Put on your tin foil trousers, guys, Wal-Mart is tracking your underwear

The individual garments, which also include underwear and socks, will have removable smart tags that can be read from a distance by Wal-Mart workers with scanners. In seconds, the worker will be able to know what sizes are missing and will also be able tell what is on hand in the stock room. Such instant knowledge will allow store clerks to have the right sizes on hand when shoppers need them.
The tags work by reflecting a weak radio signal to identify the product.
They have long spurred privacy fears and visions of stores being able to scan an entire shopping cart of items at one time.
Wal-Mart’s goal is to eventually expand the tags to other types of merchandise.

We learned about these RFID's in a marketing class I took...they aren't used to track where the lovely PeopleOfWalmart are spending their free time. It's just a step towards making check-out a lot easier and faster. Once these RFID's can be made cheap enough, people will be able to walk past a scanner with a cart full of items and they will all be scanned simultaneously, rather than one at a time. It will save time as well as cut down on shoplifting.

So they are trying to say that a walmart employee would actually try to help a customer?

Them little critters are going to be the ruin of mankinds freedoms. They will be able to keep track of who went where and how long they were there. they can already do it with your cell phone. Just one more reason not to have one.

All stores have anti theft tags on their more expensive items. Keeps the costs down for everyone when people can't steal crap.

"Removable smart tags ... can be read from a distance by Wal-Mart workers with scanners" This doesn't sound like anything to worry about. It seems as though these tags will just be advanced bar codes.
I will still be shopping at Target though :)

Were their inventory issues really that out of control that this became necessary? I wonder what all of the little chinese children who made that underwear think about it. . .
