Richard Pryor is one of those comics that’s kind of a pivotal person in comedy. No Pryor, no Eddie Murphy, no Dave Chappelle and lord knows who else. The key to Pryor’s comedy was his ability to look honestly at himself and the world around him. Obviously that sometimes included a lot of foul language but he was able to take moments that might shame other people like his crack pipe exploding and sending him to the hospital, and make a good story out of it.
