This hemp stuff is all a little silly.
On one side the officials are scared crazy because it's mildly narcotic.
On the other side it's proponents keep on lauding it's other uses, when in reality they're all quite anachronistic since other materials have long since done a superior job.Hemp is NOT a magical jack of all trades. It's a useful niche product that's not being fully exploited because of fear.

It has only been eighty years since Hemp was banned (and for the botanically challenged yes cannabis is Latin for hemp. What do you think Canvas is?). Lots of cloth is made from Hemp and the acrobatics necessary to keep it banned are extraordinary.

Hemp used to be the strongest material known for making rope. The "smokey" hats, as I call them are worn by many cops and drill instructors in the military. This isn't the same hemp you would smoke. Ever been to Kansas? The crap grows on every ditch bank 10 feet tall, but the soil is lacking in minerals that produce THC in the plants.
