Stewart, Colbert Announce Dueling Marches On Washington. 'Rally To Restore Sanity' vs. 'March To Keep Fear Alive'

Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert will march together on Washington.

Or against each other in Washington.

Either way, expect plenty of Comedy Central fans to show up on October 30 when Stewart's "Rally To Restore Sanity" will meet Colbert's "March To Keep Fear Alive" in the nation's capital.

The duo have been hinting at a major announcement for several episodes in a mock response to Glenn Beck's own "Restoring Honor" rally that was held this year on the anniversary of a famous Martin Luther King speech at the same monument. There's no indication that the announced get-together is a joke, though. Both comedians are telling their audiences to book hotel rooms now (though for different reasons, as you'll see).

"It'll be like being in a chat room," Stewart explained. "But real."

Stewart punctuated his announcement on the earlier program with a homemade-looking banner reading, "Take It Down A Notch For America."

Colbert followed up with an announcement on his own show, and insisted that he would "notch it up a scotch."

Who's more easily conned by reality TV and fake movies like 'I'm Still Here': The media or the public?

Casey Affleck and Joaquin Phoenix's much-debated mock documentary, "I'm Still Here," now revealed to be an utter fake, is just the latest example of a tsunami of entertainment that it is not at all what it seems. In fact, when you watch movies or TV today, it's hard to decide whether what you're seeing is real, fake or somewhere in the dramatic netherworld in between.

TV is overrun with reality TV shows, which might be the least accurate genre moniker of all time, since virtually all reality TV shows are shaped, scripted and full of storylines that are just as complex and convoluted (and often just as preposterous) as any soap opera or telenovela series. At the multiplexes this weekend, "I'm Still Here" was joined by "Catfish," a fascinatingly ambiguous documentary by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman about a wide-eyed young New York photographer--actually one of the director's brothers--who engages in an online romance with a mysterious young woman who turns out to be entirely different from whom she appears to be.

They are more credible than the lying, manipulative freaks on FOX.

At least they are real and are not controlled by a psychotic Australian that wants to control the content of American media and comedy centrals second biggest shareholder is not an arab prince!

Old, scared, white, undereducated Americans are the best thing that happend to FOX.

    • Jon Stewart and Stephane Colbert are spot on in their send up of Glen Beck and his sanctimonious Rally to Restore honor at the Nations capital. I have plenty of sane and reasoned friends who are Republican, and they are reasonably unhappy about the current state of affairs in our country, as they have every right to be.
But Jon Stewarts very logical exposure and dead on accurate protrayal of the rights hypocrisy, occasional lunacy, and oft times 'circle jerk' logic is not only amusing.... but accurate to a T. Not only does the 'truth' hurt, its funny as hell....although i personally don't know how funny hell can be....what with the heat and misery and all..... Keep up the good, and very funny, work guys.
