A federal judge on Friday cleared the way for the first execution in California in nearly five years when he refused to halt murderer-rapist Albert Greenwood Brown's death by lethal injection, scheduled for Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel expressed concern about the limited time he had to evaluate the state's newly revised execution procedures and gave Brown the choice of being put to death by a single injection, as practiced in Washington and Ohio, instead of by the state's three-drug method.

Fogel expressed inner conflict over his ruling, saying his court was "painfully aware that however it decides a case of this nature, there will be many who disagree profoundly with its decision. The moral and political debate about capital punishment will continue, as it should.

But the state has "a strong interest in proceeding with its judgment," the judge conceded. He said he was offering the single-injection option to alleviate his residual concerns about the potential for the three-injection method to subject condemned inmates to cruel and unusual punishment.

      In response to Williams' petition for clemency, the District Attorney reported to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger the damage caused society by the Crips gang:

      This gang is responsible for the regular commission of crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, and drug sales. The gang has taken over large areas of many of our communities. As a result, hard-working, law abiding citizens are forced to live in daily fear that gang members might take their lives.

      In 2004 alone, in the City of Los Angeles alone, gang-related crimes accounted for 291 homicides, 717 attempted homicides, 2616 felony assaults, 61 attacks on police officers, 2308 robberies, 44 kidnappings, 36 rapes, 754 acts of witness intimidation, 20 acts of extortion, and 188 carjackings. (P. Exh. 5).

      Of course, these statistics only cover those crimes in which the victim was brave enough to contact the police. Many more victims, acting under the fear of gang retaliation, never even contact the authorities. Instead, they simply continue living in submissive fear of the gang members that control their communities.

      so whats with the bloodlust? these people are in jail for life with nothing to look forward to except the next time they will be butt raped. isnt that enough suffering for a person? whos to say death wont be a release for them? this story is at the bottom of the pile when it comes to important issues in our country right now. at least post something relevant or interesting because it seems to me you just post on current to tell everone how much you hate liberals. ok we get it.

Not necessarily in what you say - which is generally illogical and disturbing - but I feel as though it gives me some sort of voyeuristic insight into the truly hateful mind.

      what you need to do is get out of your 'comfort bubble' and join the real world......majority of illegal aliens ARE hard core criminals and gang members...HOWEVER, the usual mindset that to save them is to make sure they have the right 'to be slaves and pick mr colbert's vegetables, i do advocate going after the native government to FIX THEIR GAME so they dont have to risk life and limb to get here to pick your table or pick your vegetables or mow our lawn...
