Found these wristbands while wasting time on eBay earlier today...check them out!

Show your support for the legalization of marijuana with a 3 pack of Legalize It wristbands! Keep one for yourself, and spread the word by giving away the other two!

"Penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself; and where they are, they should be changed. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against possession of marihuana in private for personal use... Therefore, I support legislation amending Federal law to eliminate all Federal criminal penalties for the possession of up to one ounce of marihuana."

- Jimmy Carter, U.S. President quote on Marijuana

    • I think it's a pretty good entrepreneurial idea. Sure, maybe the money isn't going to NORML or anything like that, but at least there is public awareness. And it's not like they're making thousands of dollars off it...probably just barely breaking even.

And for the record, I think that fellow pot smokers should not be afraid to publicly display that they smoke. If we keep hiding it, then we'll never get anywhere! It's only "bad" because society says so.

Yeah, unless you don't smoke but are for legalization. Cause then it's the people who label them as smokers who are the morons.
They're not for wearing to work, for God's sake.
Judge? Officer? If you haven't done anything illegal then there's not a problem, it's just a bracelet. You're not going to get arrested for expressing sentiments against persecution of pot and pot smokers.

    • Logically, the drugs are here, we might as well legalize them and tax them.

The war on drugs has not stopped the supply of drugs. The war on drugs has only acted as a price support mechanism for the drug dealers. Didn't we learn anything from prohibition?

Yes, using drugs is illegal, but that does not constitute 90 days in jail and a $250 fine for one gram of pot being dishonestly labeled as yours.
A friend of mine was driving home, sober, from a concert with a car full of friends. He was pulled over on the way home, as they were stopping most cars that look like less than $1,000 was spent on them. When the cop asked if they had been drinking or if anyone had weed on them, a girl in the backseat said "I have some, but the big black guy (the driver) made me hold onto it". This was of course a lie, one fueled by fear I suppose (she could've kept her mouth shut but thought her purse would get searched) but Tennessee cops have what I like to refer to as "little white girl syndrome". Pretty white girls will get countless warnings, while the guys (especially non white guys) will get fucked. Because of this lie, he was sent to jail for 6 months and because it was a first conviction, he only had to pay $250, which is annoying when you're trying to pay rent and you just spent 6 months in jail.

Just because it's illegal doesn't mean we should be submissive to the consequences.
And just because we may be perceived as "pot heads" doesn't mean we shouldn't support the cause and raise awareness by "showing it off to the world".

By the way, if caught in Vancouver with a gram of pot, what are the potential charges and fines? For a first offense?

      EDIT:
But just to be clear, no, you shouldn't wear it to a job interview.

"Vancouver with a gram of pot, what are the potential charges and fines? For a first offense?" - Nothing happens, ever, when you're "caught" with a gram of pot.

If you're caught with a beer (in a park, beach), the cops will throw it away. Next to you, someone might be smoking pot, and the police won't do anything... might as well legalize it LOL

For sure! And beer is really expensive here too!

Check it out what this girl says about pot in Vancouver: "COFFEE! OMG the canadians are crazy for the stuff! Not only is there a Starbucks on EVERY corner but also Blends, Tim Hortons, Waves and Take 5 next door, not to mention all the smaller independent places dotted around filling in the gaps. You can't move for it. You also cannot move for pot! Mom - feel free to look away now and maybe not read this bit to Gran ok? It smells of weed EVERYWHERE! People smoke it openly in the street - no worries. Signs in the hostels and at the SWAP office (BUNAC sister group) tell you its still illegal etc but you would never guess it. People practically give it away. I can understand now maybe why the Canadians put up with the taxes and the beer prices. And it explains why they're all so laid back and friendly."

That's what I've always said. I've never met a pothead who beat his wife or kids. I never met a pothead who died during rehabilitation from self inflicted injuries. I never met a pothead who ran his car over a tent full of children in the front yard of a home and hit a tree. I never met a pothead who got cancer from the pot he smoked.

But I've met alcoholics who fit all 4 descriptions.

      Pothead > Alcoholic

that abuse factor is a BIG one!
      i'm definitely in agreement.

"alcohol-induced rage" is called so for a reason. when have we ever heard of a "marijuana-fueled outburst" or "marijuana-induced rage"? it doesn't happen!

the unpredictable behavior, anger, and lack of judgement is all too easy to attain under the influence of alcohol.

marijuana calms, soothes, heals. not much else to it.

    • I like the cause, but the idea that those are made of plastic is wildly contradictory.
And who exactly is selling these? Will they be dispersing the funds amongst pro-marijuana organizations, or is it just going into their pocket?
The idea is good, I just think it would be better if it went to normL or support for prop 19 or another related cause.

    • Yeah, yeah, wear some fuckin' rubber band on your wrist! That'll be REALLY effective! Yeah, totally, bra.

well, the yellow LiveStrong or pink bands for breast cancer awareness weren't pointless.
      key word: awareness.

it's a little thing to show support silently without heavy outspokenness (although that's ok too).

with decriminalization official in CA and Prop. 19 up for voting, there's no better time to start showing the support!

      I disagree.

Whenever I see someone who has one of those rubber wristbands on (if I notice it at all, which is rare), I have never been interested in engaging that person in some kind of generic consumer dialogue, nor have I ever been able to read what the bracelet is for.

As far as I'm concerned, this rubber bracelet phenomenon is merely another scam to keep everyone artificially inflated with a sense of accomplishment, while maintaining further reinforcement of the same old capitalism.

The way I live my life, is my support (or lack thereof) for various causes.

Wearing a rubber wristband showing that you care about cancer treatments is fine, I just think it's missing the point.

Q: Who created such cancerous potential in our world today?

A: Massive, anonymous, Industry interested so much more in profit, that it has been willing to spread it's poisons throughout every natural system on Earth.

None under this banner of "Industry" are held responsible in any meaningful way, but are instead allowed continued, legal sanctions to do whatever they've been doing.

We, the non-Industry folk, are then held responsible and reminded to "Recycle that water bottle!" and "Walk for Cancer!"

But it's all bullshit because no progress toward real, institutional change is being made.

My point is this: Wearing some colored, rubber band might make you feel good, but most of the time it's equal to standing next to a fast food restaurant and yelling, "1,2,3,4! This is a vegan war!" You're wasting your energy and the entrenched Industry that created the problems loves when you do that.

Unless the profits went to organizations that promote the legalization of pot, and allow them to expand on advertising, rallies, and available information.
If the money goes to some douche who made them and thought they'd sell like crazy to pot heads, then don't pay money for the things. I know a lot of people who would buy these if the money was distributed amongst organizations that make real efforts to promote legalization. I doubt the money goes anywhere productive, considering the bracelets are made of plastic and not hemp oil.
As far as the effectiveness of the bracelets goes, those stupid things got huge after Livestrong and I knew lots of people who asked about them when it wasn't the typical yellow bracelet. So if someone happens to read the print, they may ask about it.

    • great idea.

think about it: they're a great little way to show support, it's election season, PROP 19 IS THE HOT ISSUE, we know a shitload of people support legalization.

      let's get them everywhere!

      :)
