The Power of Oprah Winfrey shows her support for Jon and Stephen's Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear with a gift for the audience.

Oprah is famous for giving her audience surprise gifts, but Thursday night she extended that generosity to Jon Stewart's "Daily Show" audience as well.

Oprah appeared via satellite on "The Daily Show" to lend her support for Stewart's upcoming "Rally to Restore Sanity" in Washington, DC.

"I think that we need a little bit more sanity in the world," Oprah said. "I wanted to show my support for you, Jon, and also for your audience. So here's what I did: I had my staff sneak into your studio early this morning with a little gift."

Audience members were then told to look under their seats, where they found red envelopes featuring tickets to Stewart's rally.

"You're going to the rally! You're going to the rally! You're going to the rally! Everybody's going to the rally!" Oprah exclaimed. "Now get out there and restore some sanity!"

According to JustJared.com, Oprah's offer includes a plane ticket and hotel accommodations in Washington for the rally

      Prisoners are being abused at a "secret jail" in the main American military base in Afghanistan, according to a report from a US policy think tank.

      Ex-detainees said they were deprived of sleep and held in cold isolation cells in the site at Bagram, says New York-based Open Society Foundations.

      A BBC investigation in April uncovered similar allegations of prisoner abuse at a hidden facility in Bagram airbase.

      The US military repeated its denial that it was operating a secret jail.
      'Very troubling pattern'

      Open Society Foundations, which is funded by liberal billionaire George Soros, says 18 detainees claim they were held at a secret site, dubbed the "black jail", during 2009 and 2010.

      Millions of homes have been seized by banks during the economic crisis through a mass production system of foreclosures that was set up to prioritize one thing over everything else: speed.

      With 2 million homes in foreclosure and another 2.3 million seriously delinquent on their mortgages - the biggest logjam of distressed properties the market has ever seen - companies involved in the foreclosure process were paid to move cases quickly through the pipeline.

      I disagee with your observation.. Oama continues to have the support of millions of Americans...Real change don't happen over night, and I am not naive enough to expect perfection after half a term! I don't agree with all of his poicies, however he is a genuine patriot and place country before party..He is an execptional leader and will continue to emplement progressive policies in order to move America forward..

      Obama: End tax breaks to stop overseas hiring
      Obama calls for end to tax breaks to end overseas hiring; proposal opposed by some Dems

      WASHINGTON (AP) -- End tax breaks that reward some U.S. companies with overseas subsidiaries and encourage those businesses to create jobs in other countries, President Barack Obama is telling Congress.

      Yet it's an idea that has raised concerns even among some lawmakers in the president's own party.

      At issue is a bill, now stalled in the Senate, that would do away with some tax credits and deferrals for U.S. companies for operations abroad.

      "There is no reason why our tax code should actively reward them for creating jobs overseas," Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday. "Instead, we should be using our tax dollars to reward companies that create jobs and businesses within our borders."

      Though Obama singled out Republican opposition, the bill also failed to get support from some Democrats, including the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont. He has expressed concern that the change would put the U.S. at a competitive disadvantage.

      The ending of the tax provisions has run into opposition from business groups, including the National Association of Manufacturers.

      Obama said that while companies that conduct business internationally do make an important contribution to the U.S. economy, it doesn't make sense to grant them tax breaks when companies at home are struggling to rebound from the economic crisis.

      Obama has said he wants revenue collected from ending the tax provisions to go to other business tax breaks, by making permanent research and development tax credits and allowing businesses next year to write off all new equipment costs.

      In the GOP address, Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., urged House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to call Congress back into session to take an immediate vote on whether to extend Bush-era tax cuts.

      "The prosperity of the American people is more important than the political fortunes of any politician or any political party," Pence said.

      Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., have said the tax issue will be taken up after the Nov. 2 election.

      The tax cuts have been a point of contention between the president and Republicans in the lead-up to the midterm elections. The GOP wants to extend the tax cuts for all Americans, including the top income earners, while Obama wants to extend the tax cuts only for the middle class -- those families earning less than $250,000 a year.
