It is impossible to say how long it will take before Mr Assange is out. The problem is that £200,000 can't be paid in by cheque because cheques take seven days to clear. We have to go around to find money in cash. Until this court is in possession of £200,000, an innocent man stays in jail.

Stephens trotted out the adjectives to describe the conditions that Assange is being held – he used the words Orwellian, Dickensian and Victorian.

4.55pm: Big news if true: Swedish prosecutors will not appeal, according to ABC's Jim Sciutto.

4.46pm: The Swedish process is an abusive process, Stephens claimed, adding that supporting material for the case had still not been provided. Assange will remain in jail until tomorrow or Thursday unless £200,000 in cash can be found. If the cash is stumped up, he will be freed.

Stephens said bail conditions involved Assange staying in a particular location so he could be geo-located with an electronic tag.

He is being kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours, Stephens said. His mail is not getting through and he is not being allowed to read newspapers. He said Assange was worried about his colleagues at WikiLeaks.

      their Corporate foreign wars of Piracy. The Corporate Government
      CIA gangsters made sure to subvert Newspapers, TV, radio to sell
      their propaganda to dupe the public into supporting their criminal wars
      under false pretenses since Bush & Obama. CIA Directors have openly
      bragged of having all prominent TV broadcasters in their pocket.

      Honest Journalism IS mightier than the sword, which has been put to
      innocent men.women, and children non combatants in Iraq &
      Afghanistan in War Crimes,Bush is heinously & infamously notorious
      for. I only wish you were around during Vietnam, sir. We the People
      understand by now that like David against Goliath, you stood up to
      these mass Murderer promoting fiends who've profiteered in Iraq &
      Afghanistan as the merchants of death. Mr.Assange, perhaps you
      can't see him now in your darkest hour, but there's an angel of our
      Lord standing over you as God smiles down on you for having the
      courage of your convictions, which are anything but criminal. We know
      it's one of the CIA's criminal operatives who's attempted to frame you.
      You are in all our prayers. Nelson Mandella survived, as you will too.

      It might appear toyou now that you're all alone, but there have been
      demonstrations in Spain protesting this. Here in the USA We the people
      are all with you 100%. We know of the pressure Obama put on Spain
      to have them desist in prosecuting Gerorge Bush Jr. for War Crimes.
      We still demand that Bush be brought to Justice and stand trial in the Hague.
