Bristol Palin's Nonprofit Paid Her Seven Times What It Spent On Actual Teen Pregnancy Prevention

In 2009, Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol joined a teen pregnancy prevention nonprofit called the Candie’s Foundation. Today, the Associated Press reported that the Candie’s Foundation released its 2009 tax information, revealing that Bristol was paid a salary of $262,500.

But a closer examination of the tax form by ThinkProgress shows that the group disbursed only $35,000 in grants to actual teen pregnancy health and counseling clinics: $25,000 to the Mt. Sinai Adolescent Health Center and $10,000 to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. View a screenshot of Bristol’s exuberant salary below:

Thus, the nonprofit paid Bristol over seven times what it paid to teen pregnancy prevention groups. In addition, the Candie’s Foundation spent $165,000 on advertising, including this spot with Bristol and “The Situation” of MTV’s Jersey Shore:

Notably, Bristol’s Candies Foundation group is run by Neil Cole, an executive at the teenage clothing company Iconix Brand Group. Many critics have pointed out that the Candie’s Foundation appears to be geared towards improving the public image of Cole’s company rather than reducing teen pregnancy.

    • Another scam at the expense of the gullible. It is a common theme among the private wealth accumulators. Look at the scams that Newt Gingrich uses. He tells business that they one and award for "whatever" and then they get to have lunch with Newt himself and an award presentation [$100 crap trophy] IF they give him $5000!

Hey, I could do that too. "WIN A $2500 VACATION TO THE BAHAMAS"! Just send me $5000.

Watch Newt closely. He has set up a donate site to investigate the "possibility" of running for president. Mind you, he hasn't filed the papers with the FEC so he can actually use that money for anything he wants. Meanwhile, donors think they are giving him money for political purposes.

Greed, money sickness, or as I told one of our members here -- It is a money cancer. Everything of worth is turned into money. We would sell our grandmothers for the right price. I recently asked a neighbor if I could borrow a taller ladder than the one I have to paint the peak of my eaves. He said sure -- for $10. It is a sickness.

    • Like mother, like daughter. It's about the money.
That's why SP quit the Gov. job. She got offered jobs making big money, Fox, a TV show, book deals, working for the Koch's by pointing out who they wanted elected.

I followed the money trail. If SP supported someone....... public records showed they'd been given big bucks by the Koch's Tea Party Express.......the billionaire boys astroturfing tea party group.

They gave Joe Wilson in Alaska a cool half million and who knows what they spent on attack ads through front groups. They REALLY wanted to win that state because they have oil business up there...... but Murkowski proved that their money can't buy ALL elections.

      "Like mother, like daughter."

Prophetic statement in more ways than one. Not sure you are aware but SP was PG when she got married. So much for the abstinence only lie.

    • It is extremely obvious that the charity was for Bristol Palin, because she got the majority of the money..

    • You know, I'm getting real tired of the taste of vomit. It seems I do a bit everytime I see one more "celebrity" and "conservative christian" getting something for doing nothing. How about she lend her name to a platform for free? That would be doing something charitable. Instead, she is just like her mother, and that isn't a compliment.

    • What a joke, it's such a sad day when you KNOW that 70% of "non-profits" could never make profits because of what they pay thier members.

Anyone who showed support financially for this organization has to be disgusted as much as I am by this.

    • These right wing front groups that are supposed to be dealing with social issues are nothing more than get rich quick schemes for the likes of Bristol Palin. Must be nice to get knocked up and get all this money as a spokesperson for prevention of teen pregnancy. What a cynical farce! That whole family is nothing but trash and media whores and money grubbers! I just want this family to go away! They do nothing but spread hate and intolerance.

    • Nothing like preaching abstinence and how difficult it is to be a teen mom while getting 262,000 because you forgot to use a condom.. What kind of message does this send? oh, if you're the white teen of a republican - teen pregnancy is profitable.. woo hoo... all others, get your abortions in a back alley because you wont get any help, sympathy, or money from us. /sarcasm

    • How surprising. Their use of “The Situation” from MTV’s Jersey Shore really lent a great deal of credibility, to this organization. Color me flabbergast to find out that said credibility garnered, was unwarranted... really.
