Why the world might end next Saturday

Maybe you've already encountered the literature: pamphlets, subway ads, billboards on the side of the highway. "Judgment Day is coming" reads one billboard, which features a man praying in silhouette against a sunset backdrop. These are the works of a peculiar breed of Christian activists who've taken to the road to preach their belief in the fast-approaching End of Days. The self-appointed harbingers are not tied to any particular church -- they claim organized religion has been corrupted by the devil -- but rather to Internet- and radio-based ministries. And their lone mission is to tell anyone and everyone that the end of days is May 21. That's when, they insist, God's true believers will be lifted into heaven and saved, during a biblical event widely referred to as the Rapture.
The finer points of Christian eschatology have long been the subject of dispute (not to mention the inspiration for movies and books, like the blockbuster "Left Behind" series). Though mainstream churches reject the the notion that doomsday can be predicted by any man, fringe scholars continue to work feverishly pinpointing the moment of the final, divine revelation. And one such man -- 89-year-old radio host Harold Camping -- has been at the game for decades.
In the early 90s, Camping published a book titled "1994?," which claimed judgment day would arrive in September of that year. When confronted with such a staggering anti-climax -- the world, after all, kept on spinning -- Camping chose not to be discouraged, but to learn from his mistakes. (He hadn't considered the Book of Jeremiah, he says.) A civil engineer by trade, Camping went back to the drawing board and continued to crunch the numbers, before arriving at the adamant determination that Rapture would come on May 21, 2011. He began to spread the word through his broadcasting network, Family Radio, in 2009, and quickly built up a fervid following.
But what, exactly, is his argument? We've compiled an explainer below with all the information you'll need to prepare for May 21st.
What happens during and after the Rapture?
In a nutshell: The worthy dead will first rise up to heaven, followed shortly thereafter by about 200 million faithful followers saved by God. Those left behind will endure several months of ghastly torment. And what remains of our fair Earth will swiftly careen towards its ultimate destruction -- which will occur in October.
According to one advocate, Brian Haubert, who was interviewed for a recent article published by NPR:
On May 21, "starting in the Pacific Rim at around the 6 p.m. local time hour, in each time zone, there will be a great earthquake, such as has never been in the history of the Earth," he says. The true Christian believers — he hopes he's one of them — will be "raptured": They'll fly upward to heaven. And for the rest?
"It's just the horror of horror stories," he says, "and on top of all that, there's no more salvation at that point. And then the Bible says it will be 153 days later that the entire universe and planet Earth will be destroyed forever."

BREAKING NEWS: The world is not going to end this Saturday. This is a tired old story that has been resurrected more than Jesus himself. We are the world, We are the future, We are the children that must make a brighter day. There is no invisible deity that is going to make it all better. We must do it ourselves.

It's just The Stand, TV miniseries from the Stephen King novel, both very good. Most of world population dies of a superflu virus accidentally released from a gov't lab, experimental program called Project Blue. Remnants of U.S. population gather in Boulder CO, my home town, where Stephen King lived in the late 70s, and Las Vegas. Good (Boulder) makes a stand against evil (Vegas). Something just about like it could happen at any time. [Kareem Abdul Jabar is the Monster Shouter in NYC; the other guy is Larry, a rock star.]

The term "rapture" is used nowhere in the Bible. It is a term that has been invented by men and applied by them to what they term "the first phase" of the Second Coming. The Bible itself, however, nowhere says that Christ’s coming will occur in phases.
A nineteenth century British preacher, John Nelson Darby, was the one who developed the rapture teaching and began to promote it in the 1830s. He was the founder of the Plymouth Brethren Church and developed a scheme of scriptural interpretation called dispensationalism. The idea of the dispensationalists is that God has had different rules for different groups at different times. For instance, He had the law for the Jews and now we have grace for the Church.
Darby’s teachings were refined and popularized by C. I. Scofield, an American lawyer and minister who authored the noted Scofield Reference Bible at the beginning of the twentieth century. Primarily through Dr. Scofield, Protestant evangelicals came to generally accept the teachings of both dispensationalism and the secret rapture. These two ideas go hand in hand to blind many sincere people to God’s real message to Christians in the end time.
Proponents of the rapture point to 1 Thessalonians 4 as their primary proof of a "secret coming." They then proceed to divide all scriptures that discuss the return of Jesus Christ into two categories. First are the scriptures that discuss the resurrection of the saints and their gathering to Christ. Secondly are the scriptures that discuss Christ taking vengeance on wicked and rebellious people and nations. Their idea is that these events are separated by a period of years. Let us carefully look at 1 Thessalonians 4 and see whether that is so.

religion aside.... earth as we know it might change forever as of sept. 27th when the comet/dwarf star (comet we are all good... star we are fucked) Elenin comes into line w/earth for the 4th time. the last three times occurred on the same days as the earthquakes in new zealand, chile, & japan. all three of those times Elenin was at least 6 times further away then it will be on Sept 27th, Oct.17th, Nov.5th, & Nov.23rd as it leaves us in its debris field. so check out the link below. it contains the updated(05.06.11) oribit animation for the next few months. so, if there is a major earthquake around sept 27th, get ready for one hell of a ride.

I project that about 156 thousand people will die on May 21st and for those people the world will most definitely end as it did for the 156 thousand people that died to day.
The reality is that the world ended for about 56.7 million people last year and most likely the number will not be much different this year.
* Per minute: 267 born, 108 die, (net population increase: 159)
* Per day: 384 thousand born, 156 thousand die, (net increase 229 thousand)
* Per year: 140.4 million born, 56.7 million die, (net increase 83.6 million)DOOMS DAY IS EVERYWHERE AROUND US!
