I have to say that the strategy of voting for Paul in a primary is a very interesting strategy. Although there is no way I could stomach the man as the Chief Executive.

The left thinks government sucks so it needs to be improved. The right thinks government sucks so it needs to be defeated.

No party is really about progress, parties are about obtaining and maintaining power. Progress comes from the people, and only when they demand it, then those in power will do it to maintain their power, or they refuse and someone else will use it to obtain power. It is how these kind of things have happened since governments began, though I would advocate for a central party that leans neither to the left or the right, but rather recognizes that good ideas come from both sides, and bad ideas come from both sides. For me to support this party however they would have to consistently show that their main goal is not control of the congress but rather to facilitate agreements between the two, using whatever power they do obtain to force the two different sides to get things done.

The progressive base did not elect Obama. They weren't going to vote for McCain. In a presidential election regardless of the result 40% will vote Republican. 40% will vote Democrat. The people who decide elections are the 20% in the middle who typically do not follow politics closely. They vote their wallet. The only item that overrides their wallet is national security when it's in question.

Fascism is not the extreme right. Fascism is totalitarianism with a central government. The right is about minimizing the federal government. The right is about individualism.

Warren_Merrill:
Your statement is flawed Warren. The right is about eliminating any pro public government, while strengthening all pro corporate government. The right effectively owns government at this point, and is only pretending to be against government to facilitate the further dismantling of all measures that benefit or protect the public from the corporate determination to extract all possible profit from the public, at any additional or collateral damage to the public what so ever. And, the right is about individualism only in the respect that their efforts are to remove any co beneficial relationship between the individual and government, so that government only benefits corporatocracy. Include these realities in your statement, and you'll remove the flaw to your assertion.

You are right in some respects, and wrong in others. It is true there are those on the right who are pushing for smaller government, but the bulk of the right today is not really pushing for smaller government, sure they say that is what they want but there actions say otherwise. Im just saying the whole place voted for the patriot act, barring of course a select few, and if that is not about big government then what the hell is?

Warren_Merrill:
"The right is about individualism."
That seems right, in theory. But the right gets voting instructions from Grover Norquist. They all talk the same, vote the same, and they all believe that compromise and individual expression and dissent on individual issues is unforgiving.
What's up with that?

With the exception of a handful of Blue Dogs and RINOs politics is in a great divide at the moment. It doesn't matter who you believe is providing the marching orders, the right is sticking together and so is the left. In the past two years there weren't many on the left doing anything Pelosi didn't tell them to do.

The Patriot Act is one thing. In the big picture the right is for limited government. Going back to COMMON's point there's a difference between owning the government (your perception) and limited government.

How about no left, no right, just center of the road? Either extreme is wrong.
Progressive my dick, how about overly pushy. Democratic Socialism is NOT center. Talk about a skewed scale.

I second lazloman's support for a parliamentary system of government in the US; when those who have been elected aren't delivering either as promised or to the satisfaction of those who elected them, they're shown the way out.

This was a good video. This guy will get no arguement from me. I love the flag and he actually had solutions to the problems facing our political system. I liked his ideas.

I would prefer that the left become VERY partisan. It should stand for something like our fucking "Bill of Rights" as an example. I want a party that beleives in the Constitution as written and our right to "Pursue happiness".
I am waiting for the day when someone with brains and common sence decides that it is time to throw out ALL laws that violate our "Bill of Rights".
They will not belong to either party OR the party of ONE that we now have.

This is the most salient commentary on the current political status and the 2012 elections I've seen posted herein. Possibly the most significant point made is the fact that corporate Republicans, in Democratic disguise, have been elected into many Democratic seats, and that is why the Democrats are unable to achieve party unity. I am in full support of a Progressive Party who might leave Dems. & Reps. in the dust of their degenerate states, and forcing Obama to be effectively accountable to the people.

Register as an independent. Work to reform your state's election laws to allow for open primaries. The two party stranglehold on American democracy must be broken.

I like the idea. I would also like to see us use a parliamentary system where, different views can be represented by smaller parties, instead of all ideas being represented by just two. By and large, you'll still have a left/right divide, but the smaller parties will be free to align themselves with other parties, when their interests coincide. I don't know, just a thought.

Yes, the idea of factionalism has merit. To some extent, like in the example of the religious right aligning themselves with Republicans, but are free to side with whomever they choose, and environmentalists siding with the Democrats, factionalism is already in effect. But perhaps having an offical "Green Party", "Pro Life Party", "Right To Choose Party", ..., might be more representative. We could possibly institute them while "rewriting the Constitution" after ending corporatocracy and instituting public only campaign financing.
