We Are Going To Washington!!!

Inspired by the courageous, nonviolent uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Greece, Spain, and elsewhere, people in the United States have come together to form the October2011 Movement. This fusion of peace, social justice, environmental, student, and immigrant rights organizations is in solidarity with all who seek a peaceful, just, and sustainable future and stands ready to engage in its own campaign of nonviolent resistance beginning in Washington, D.C., this October. We recognize that your revolution is our revolution, that American Empire prevents you from achieving self-determination and economic justice, and that only together can we achieve our shared goals.
October marks the beginning of the11th year of the U.S. invasion and destruction of Afghanistan. It marks the beginning of yet another federal budget that delivers unlimited funds for war and corporate interests while putting in place an austerity budget for services that meet human and environmental needs. But this October will mark the beginning of something else in the United States — a moment when we will unite to demand an end to a system that puts profits and warfare over the welfare of people and the environment.

Want action! Take action! I will be climbing out from behind the keyboard to join in the protest this October 6, 2011. Will you? Join and let's put Washington back into the hands of the people.

Yes they did Funky and it is time we got back to that. It is easy to ignore emails and petitions. It is much harder to answer why there are throngs of people parked outside your door. They have become used to us sitting in our homes complaining. They count on it. They are used to small groups protesting because they can snuff them out. If a large number of us dig in and peacefully declare that 'we shall not be moved' then how can they continue to ignore us?

You, me and Many progressives are in the same situation. We Want to go to the protests and marches but we just can't afford it. Meanwhile, the Kochs spend money to send Teabaggers to their rallies just so they can have enough people there to call it "News" on FOX.
I think this will Still be HUGE and will put the Teabagger rallies to shame even without the Big Money interests bussing people in. - 10 months ago

Maybe a group of you can gather in Wisconsin on that day, same as those of us who could not make it there gathered in New York.

Foos, it is understandable that many cannot afford to go. I think a reason why the tea party didn't have a huge counter rally was because many were unable to afford to go, were trying to hold on to their jobs from fear of being the next laid off, or were caught up in determining where they were going to live after being foreclosed on. I am closer to Washington, I can drive, catch the bus or train, and even with these options I will have to save in order to afford it. I couldn't imagine being able to go if I lived further away. But check out the travel forum on the site, you may be surprised that there may be someone from your state willing to share.

If we all take care of business in our own “neck of the woods” things will change. Many of us have limited means these days. Choose your battles, it will be a long fight. The more the right-wing impoverishes us with their cut-throat programs, the harder it will be. But they had better think things through because if we ever have to hit the “Grapes of Wrath” trail in search of work, mobility will make us that much harder to contain. But, then again, there are no longer any greener pastures in America. We are all pretty much in the same boat. http://sibob.org/wordpress/

I disagree that the Tea Party could have had a much larger rally. I just don't think there are as many of them as FOX would lead you to believe, they are just LOUD and obnoxious and get FAR more press than they deserve. - 10 months ago

This is what I can really get behind. Civil Protest in mass numbers that will really get the attention of all of the Congress members and the President. I think an active protest on Wallstreet would be magnificent too. They are the ones that have taken us to this point after all. I am thinking it would be good to put the "FEAR OF THE PEOPLE" into Dimon, Blankfein, Mack, ad nauseum....
