Girls Like Pink, Boys Like Blue: Molson Makes Beer For Women

Image
DrinkPhilly
Molson Coors has announced plans to launch a new beer in the U.K. that will be aimed at females in an attempt to convince women that beer is, in fact, for all genders. Oh, by the way, the beer will be pink in color and no, that’s no coincidence...

    • This is so stupid it might work. After all we have raised a generation of girls who idolize brainless, pink-drenched females with the idea that girls MUST love pink because they are girls and they MUST be so much different from boys that the scientists continue to be paid to come up with conflicting theories (sometimes calling fact) abut what girls are and what boys are.

I find this all very offensive. I may come from a generation where women and girls had to fight to be taken seriously that makes me a bit touchy on the subject but, come on, discrimination is what differentiates the sexes. As soon as a girl pops from the womb, she's swaddled in pink and whispered sweet little sighs while boys come out to "my little slugger," look at those arms, he's going to be a baseball player for sure. Sure we may say something about our little girls about maybe having a career...but only if it fits in with childrearing-otherwise, she'll just get a job and go on the "Mommy Track."

Kudos to the parents who are not letting their child's sex be known. Of course, eventually it will be obvious but until then the child will have every opportunity to develop all the skills that normally would be attributed to their specific gender.

Pink beer. Yuck! I like beer. I may like it light but so does my husband--we like to chew our calories.

Girls can be girls and boys can be boys with both turning out fine. My daughter was dressed in pink and lace a lot when she was little. She was also put in sports. She was a top student and athlete in high school and college. She got a great job out of college. She's going to law school in another year. Her boyfriend would like to marry her. He's an heir to a very successful family business. She turned him down. She said no marriage until she's a couple of years into her career (that will be six years from now).

My daughter can me feminine. She is also athletic. She's been very competitive in the academic world and now the business world. Did I mention she also modeled in college? I would never raise gender neutral kids. My kids have turned out fine.

    • If I drank beer (being Type 1 Diabetic I don't)

THE last beer I'd drink is this or any connected with Coors.

The Coors family is even more insane than the Kochs.

William Coors Claimed Slave Traders Did a Favor for Today's Blacks
      14-Jul-03
      Bush Racism

According to Bush, slavery helped America; according to rightwing kingpin William Coors, the slave traders did a favor for the slaves' descendants. Bush said: "By a plan known only to Providence, the stolen sons and daughters of Africa helped to awaken the conscience of America. The very people traded into slavery helped to set America free." Now compare this to what William Coors told an audience. "William Coors was explicitly racist, and not shy about voicing it, either. In a 1984 speech he presented to a minority business group in Denver, he told them... that if they thought it was 'unfair' that their 'ancestors were dragged here in chains against their will... I would urge those of you who feel that way to go back to where your ancestors come from, and you will find out that probably the greatest favor that anybody ever did you [sic] was to drag your ancestors over here in chains, and I mean it.'"

      ***********************************************************************************

Journalist Russ Bellant examines the influential but little-known role of the Coors beer family in American politics. Through their philanthropic donations, Joseph Coors and other family members have bankrolled a right-wing agenda of union-busting, homophobia, sexism, racism, and covert operations. The Coors family has served as the cornerstone of the right-wing movement known as the New Right.

"The Coors Connection" details the individuals, organizations, and causes supported by Coors philanthropy. A picture emerges of a family's frighteningly narrow vision of the American dream, and its willingness to support extremists who would undermine American democracy.

It's not the beer that is political. It's the ass holes who mass produce it and mass market it to create their own mega corporations and fiefdoms. If the monopoly and anti trust laws were properly enforced we would have enough to pay off this "debt" that all of the conservatives claim there is no money to pay for. Just saying.

That was in the early 80's. They are a completely different company now and even went through great lengths to distance themselves from William and his statements. But you know everything about Coors cuz you read a book written 20 years ago by some no name extremist journalist...

    • If any one drinks beer they should drink it for the flavor. We have been told all of our lives that the crappy beer produced by the mass marketed corporations is great beer. It ain't. Try some of your locally produced beers. Join a brew club. Find out what real beer taste like and then tell me how great pink beer is.

    • What ever 13 year old boy that thought up this terrible idea needs to be beat up by PINK, the singer. You can bet she will NOT throw back a cool pink one.

    • This is stupid. Either you like the taste of beer or you dont. Making it pink is not going to change someones mind. Oy! I hate gender stereotypes. I hate pink - the color, not the singer.

Exactly, I am a girly girl who hates pink as well--not the singer!! I am all for the taste. So sick of the marketing ploys--And then you have to wonder with all the garbage used to turn the beer pink, what will be sacrificed??? The TASTE...
