    • The problem with Michelle Bachmann's statement is that she actually believes she can get it done. Look for her to tell us that she will get the terrorists to agree that they won't kill Americans anymore.

That's her plan to combat global warming. The argument is that once she kills minimum wage and her friends ship yet more jobs overseas, once she starts charging people fees, very few people will actually be able to afford to fart.

I'm not sure who this Obummer person is. I don't see his name in the news anywhere.
I don't recall an Obummer running for office either. Maybe this was a local candidate in your area?
Also, the United States currently only recognizes 50 states. Hence the 50 stars on the flag, if you'd paid attention in school.

    • Who is this floosie working for, really? Who & what contributors are REALLY bankrolling her? What's her agenda hmm? Has she been seen cavorting with and throwing parties for any suspicious-looking aliens?

Surrounding herself with a fake family is very hmm SCARY. Who on this planet volunteers to be surrounded by TEENAGERS? If the Bachmann woman isn't human then she's ineligible to hold Public Office... and apparently she isn't human because she hasn't the brains to know gasoline can't be lowered to any $2.00 a gallon.

THROW THE ALIEN MOMMA FROM THE TRAIN. REAL MEN HOLD THE HIGHEST OFFICE NOT ALIEN WOMEN FROM PLANET X.

I think it's a combination of the two, wynnmeg61. But OPEC still has a hand in setting the price of the barrell of crude oil. It's the Wall Street speculators that then drive it up from there.

OPEC is just making sure they get their share, those that are driving the price as high as they can possibly get it are the speculators. They are laughing themselves silly watching OPEC takes all the heat and everyone forgets about the speculators. A huge part of the GOP fighting Elizabeth Warren and the CPA, and stopping Obama from putting in someone to the head of the CFRC is so the speculators can keep screwing the citizens

    • She is restructuring our units of fluid measurements. From now on 64 oz is now a gallon, 32 oz is now 1/2 gallon, 16 oz is now a quart and 8 oz is now a pint. She never could get the idea of cups as a unit of measurement. We will now use the Queen Bachmann gallon instead of the current statute of 5th of Queen Anne (231 cu in).

I remember when gas was 23¢ a gallon, I mean if you're going to promise the moon, why not? Or maybe we should forgo that and just bring back Harry Truman. He seemed pretty good at the time.

    • Yes, as President she could issue an order setting gas prices at $2 per gallon. Even with Congress out of session, the order would stand for less than a week. Congress would surely strike down anysuch measure, yet even if they did not, the Supreme Court would.

All federal taxes on fuel would have to be suspended, in which case, all regulatory agency functions regarding the manufactoring, transportation and sale and distribution of fuel would have to be suspended as well. True, the gas and oil industry would love to see this day, they would not stand still on a standing regulation that fuel prices remain at $2 or lower per gallon.

Not only would you have every environmental group up in arms, the entire gas and oil industry would be in court declaring any type of price capping to be illegal and unconstitutional. In one venue or another, the $2 dollar per gallon would be upended.

In all likelihood it would be the gas and oil industry that would gain the ears of legislature or the court first. We would still have the sam high gas prices without any regulatory restriction on the industries supply the fuel.

No other business is allowed to gouge its customers the way that these people do, with outrageous profits on their books they spike the price any time they think they're going to have to put some money out for their business. Last week the cost of oil went down, but prices are still high. Of course, there was a leak in the Middle East so we have to eat the cost of clean up there. Its disgusting.

    • joynoel:

The price of gasoline has very little to do with the price of the input costs, and a GREAT DEAL to do with the psychology of the buyer. We're going to buy gasoline at whatever price they think they can sell it to us without changing our behavior. By coordinating hikes in the price of gas at the pump with news events, we can be convinced that the price is in some way connected to those events. What they've really tied the price to is an economists projection on the level we'll pay without driving less, taking the bus more, demanding better fuel efficiency or any other change that lowers overall consumption.

I've heard an argument that the reason we should allow the big oil companies to keep the massive government subsidies they are currently getting is that oil companies will raise their prices to consumers to cover the shortfall. I disagree. If the oil companies could get people to pay those higher prices, they would be doing it already. Are they really passing up the chance to make billions of dollars more each year because they are already charging "enough" to cover their expenses? I don't think so. Gas prices are set by what the market will bear, not to meet a margin goal.

No "understanding" is required if you convert your fuel-burning engine to a steam engine. Just that instead of burning coal/wood to heat the water use electricity shooting thru a water injector [that replaces the sparkplugs] sprayed into the cylinder hitting a superheated splash plate (for instant Steam Power propulsion).

At which point you can drive all over the United States visiting theme parks and zoos and national monuments TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT not having to purchase any fuel. And pay off yer house mortgage instead of paying for fuel oil/propane and heatpump bumped-up electric service.
