The student says that the high school teacher was "mocking" literal interpretations of the Bible. Perhaps the teacher was doing a good job at trying to get students to begin to think for themselves. I highly recommend John Taylor Gatto's books, Weapons of Mass Instruction. Eye-opening. http://www.amazon.com/Weapons-Mass-Instruction-Schoolteachers-Compulsory/dp/0865...

Rudeboy84: I agree that noone's beliefs should be mocked. That being said, it is inconsistent with logical thought that people should discount the scientific evidence of evolution. I am quite sure that God did not create us with our capacity for thought so that we could ignore scientific fact. Use the brain God gave you to increase your knowledge and expand your thinking. If we are made in the image of God, we should be able to imagine a world out of nothing and it would be an insult to this being to turn our backs on the intelligence we have. This arguement should be put to rest at this point in our evolution as a species and as individuals.

Its funny at the hypocrisy here in the forum. I thought I was dealing with intelligent people. I like Current and the social issues that are commented on and brought to light, but as soon as it turns to religion this place is no better than the Fox News echo chamber.
Non-believers voting up only those comments which they agree with and drowning out the counter arguments so it becomes a place of only yes men and women.
This is not the way forward you are all stuck, spinning your wheels and congratulating each other on how far you have gone.

But that is the problem with you non-believers of science, you are a cornered animal, afraid of your extinction, because you know the only thing you can hold on to is something you can't even prove to yourself.
And you have felt this for sure, because you rage like a doubter, bullying to cover up, bullying for mercy.
But here is the trick, boy, if you want to be a man, then don't react like a kid. Think about what is being said, before you act on your ego, or as you would like to believe is your feelings

Lol you have to have facts before you have a legitimate debate, and that is something creationists lack. If people want to laugh and make jokes about people believing in fairy tales long after they realize santa is fake, that is fine by me. That is just the price you have to be willing to pay if you live with your head in the dirt. And you can't go around shouting that our ideas are stupid because they are usually supported by evidence and you'd only be making yourself look like a fool.

Rudeboy84:
but here is a bit of follow up, in case you missed my point...
you see, being a christian or a scientist, doesn't preclude the other;but when you say "non-believers voting up" that’s exactly what it means
the very word is an us versus them mentality, christian or nobody
it is the perfect verbal example of intolerance
And I found it quite amusing that you would rage about hypocrisy, when you are not even mindful of your own bigoted language. So, I merely suggested in a, mocking but playful way, if you stepped outside yourself, you would see it too, and have a good laugh at it.

I'm hardly being a hater, and peer review can't keep up with all the junk science that has flooded the field, and there is nothing that can change a person's opinion when they've already made a decision except the people themselves. Oh, you can certainly advocate a change, but you can't create it. That's the power of faith (whether you admit you have any or not)
I'm glad you mentiond the scientific method, it's one thing I actually have faith in, but it shouldn't be confused with scientists who are human, and therefore vulnerable to corruption, whereas a method is not vulnerable to anything but abuses made by humans. Science is created by humans, for humans, and it stands to reason that they should be given the same amount of respect you'd give any person who expects you to believe them. And I'm flagging you for making personal attacks.

The scientific method — the method wherein inquiry regards itself as fallible and purposely tests itself and criticizes, corrects, and improves itself.
I think that’s what cwebb said, and many others, so do you concede the only point you had was its fine to be ignorant if you, really, really believe it.

A quote from the first post I responded to
"Belief is biased, science is not. "
Scientific method is a system used-by the aforementioned fallable humans-to sort through beliefs to decide which stay and which go and since it is up to the scientist to decide if he/she will use ethical techniques in determining the outcome, it's fair to assume (and it has been proven) that the "science" they produce is not without bias. - 9 months ago

I certainly believe that because of what everyone knows to be true (scientists have bias), saying people should blindly put their faith into science is reckless. Instead, the people I have been debating at (I'd say "with" if their comments had any substance outside of petty insults and comments full of nothing but pure annoyances) people who have been pretending that science can do no wrong and when they finally admit that scientists can do wrong, they resort to yet more name calling and posting comments that have no more substance than schoolyard arguements.

So your whole justification for insulting me in a most grievous fashion is because I'm snide and surly when it would be more productive to be charming?
Why should I waste my time trying to charm assholes I already tried to charm?

I'm not sure that comparing creationism to magic is mockery. I'm a Wiccan, I DO magic (AKA magik, if that's what you prefer), and creating the whole damn universe by commanding it to exsist sounds EXACTLY like magic.
I'd also like to add that creationism ISN'T a Christian "thing". Nearly all religions have some version of the same story: some God says "let there be [something] (I'm paraphrasing here)" and BOOM! Shit just starts to exsist. It's not very often that the God is described as being directly involved in the process (he barely gets his hands dirty in any creation story), usually shit starts to exsist becuse of his verbal command to do so, and that IS magical. Actually sorting through the chaos of the void to separate the elements and moulding them into the desired form counts as physical labor, and there's (typically) no magic in that. - 9 months ago
