In response to your query , i suggest this may be a problem of conformity . Herd mentality , as it is sometimes called . It also goes by the title of Marketing . Christianity has become a BRAND . The young are programmed so feel this is a SAFE and TRUSTED label . A household word . No one is exposed to the HISTORY of Christianity . That would be a threat to the Brand name . So , a politician branded "christian" will get a significant number of votes , by those voters who do not wish to do a lot of research and vote by impulse . Like impulse shopping . Only it is impulse voting . Not everyone is equipped for deep though . About 25% of voters , methinks . And that is enough to make it an important label for the voting market .

It is the new X rated. Hardly any movies get it because it is box office death. There is a really great movie called "this movie is not yet rated" that explains the very unfair system by which movies are rated.
