I was arrogantly stepping my way through an upscale part of Los Angeles pretending to be interested in overpriced shirts, shoes, and underwear, when a muscular man sprung into my path. I jauntily sidestepped the bastard and I mumbled, I don't want any trouble, you overpriced shill. Lucky for me, he didn't hear what I said.
"Sir, can you take a minute to help us fight hate groups?" He was a tall black man in a red vest.
I've got no money for you, but sure, I said, I'll help. I write hate speech. It's how I make my living. I think it serves a purpose. So why not fight it? Bolster both sides. Give me the details.
He visually gathered himself and told me about his organization and how they take to court any group they consider a "hate group".
How do you define a hate group? I asked.
"It's not hard to tell," he said. "You just know it when you see it. We look at blogs, we follow the actions of certain groups and see if they are engaged in hate crimes or hate speech."
Sounds like a determined science, I said. I would scan a well-known blog called Dear Dirty America and inspect it for hate. Look deep. You'll see it. But if you take legal action against DDA, you'll have 10,000 bikers on your ass.
