Thinking the unthinkable: Pat Robertson may be right

Image

So yes, it’s true. Part of the reason I don’t like Tebow is that he sticks his Christianity in my face. If you want to call that bigotry, OK. That’s not quite the right definition of the word, but Pat’s not the sharpest thorn on the crown. Of course, what Robertson didn’t say, and is also contributing to the whole thing: Tebow only has his job in the pro’s because of pro-Christian bigotry. He never would have gotten past third string without it.

    • Tebow is not "sticking Christianity" in anyones face. If he chooses to pray after a touchdown that should not be a problem. You are certainly free not to watch it. How he thanks God is up to him.
The last sentence suggests that the author does not like Tebow due to anti-Christian bigotry.

    • I read the article and didn't get the part where the author agreed with Pat Robertson, seriously... no joke, I really am confused as to what Robertson was right about. I realize the photo I posted is hilarious but I'm not joking about missing the most important part of this article.

Was it Robertson's claim that SNL doesn't make fun of Muslims like they did Christians?

Or, that Tebow is not a great quarterback and only got picked on for his flamboyant religious practice?

    • I think these quotes show that Little Timmy understands nothing about his religion:

      Matthew 6:1
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

      Matthew 6:5-8
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

      Luke 18:9
The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

    • Mankind is capable of so much but for some reason we just have to be believe there is some power (boogey man) greater than ourselves. The social scientists blame it insecurity and stuff like that but why o why can't we see the error of our ways? Theocracy is still responsible for the deaths of thousands still today. It makes no sense.

    • I guess my attitude toward Tim Tebow is thus:

✔ I suspect he was badly brainwashed as a kid by his insane parents.
✔ He doesn't appear to be a bad guy ... but my opinion might change, I once thought Ben Roethlishberger was OK.
✔ I am uncomfortable with his public displays of faith, but I also think that for better or worse, that's who he is, like it or not.
✔ His fanatics are really obnoxious
✔ I have absolutely no idea if he will ever be a legitimate NFL quarterback, but 7-2 as a starter is what it is.
✔ I guess I relate to him somewhat because of my background, which I broke free of.
✔ He's sort of fun to watch. ☺

      Merry Christmas!

    • Living in Denver you can not go anywhere with out people talking about Tebow.
I got into a few words with a fella at work the other day because I said Tebow sucks (and he does).
I mean what planet do these people live on?
      Do they watch the games?
Just because he Broncos win does not mean it is because Tebow win's it for them.

I am in the MTZ and I get a 50/50 response about him. He certainly is polarizing.

I guess I sort of like him because it seems like he has absolutely NO idea what the shite he is doing, but he manages to pull games out of his arse. I find that funny.

Do people in Colorado Springs go insane over him?

I live in Florida. We have been going through this for several years now and It is not letting up.

I am becoming convinced that the people that love him so much are the people that are desperately looking for a reason to keep believing in a god. Everyone with even the simplest of brains knows there is no god but the weak people among us hope there is one.

I don't live in the springs but if I had to guess I would go with YES! The Christian right has a very strong hold in the springs. Home of Focus on the family (Scary if you ask me).

I agree with you but I would like to add that they also do no harm with their religion. This is where I have serious issues with the Tebow family. I have read their website and even though they have cleaned it up a little over the last couple of years it is still very cultish in my opinion.

      I agree with you!
Religion IMO is very harmful, hateful, and nothing but excuses and fear mongering.
I try to live my life peaceful, but when people shove it in my face I don't like it.

    • I remember Reggie White from a few years ago. He was an ordained minister when he played in the NFL. He was a devout christian and a nice guy but he never seemed to rub people wrong. With the obvious exception of most offensive linemen, of course.

Mr. White became a Hall of Famer and is one of the greatest defensive linemen of all time. He let people know of his christianity but never was obnoxious about it.

As an Atheist I am not anti christian, some of my best friends are christian. I have problems with the way the Tebow family practices their christianity. From what I have read on their website I would be more inclined to call them a cult. and con artists.

I do not recall these comments but I guess I would not be surprised by them. In Mr. White's defense it would have been a few years back when it was still OK to hate the LGBT Community. If Mr. White were alive today I like to think his view would be a little more respectful.

I am ashamed to say that back When Mr. White was playing football my views of LGBT people was not appropriate by today's standards. Through the years I have come to know a greater variety of people and learned to decide on a person by person basis if I like them.

I now accept people for who they are and hope that they do the same for me. Today I am much happier and I have more friends. It is amazing how setting aside our hate and intolerance can do that.

I guess I started my church to help spread the word of my revelation.

      Exactly.

The older I get the more people I have met and the more I come to understand that observation. They, as in everyone else, are exactly like me. We are all different but we are all the same. We go to work, but have different jobs. We spend time with our families but they are different people. We relax and have fun but we enjoy different leisure activities. We love but the people and things we love are different.

I guess this is what makes life so much fun. I wish more people the happiness and enjoyment of setting their hate down and walking away from it.

Yeah, what Vick did was beyond despicable.

But, at least he did time for it -- and real time at Fort Leavenworth, not some federal day camp.

Vick's another one who's "found Jesus," you know.

I know, you can hate on Tim Tebow all you want, but at least he isn't a drunken (alleged -- but c'mon, we all know he's probably guilty) rapist.

Ben is a big fat uberChristian hypocrite of the worst kind.

I like Alex Smith because the poor guy has just been through the ringer with injuries and all the bad coaches he's had and now he's having a really good year.

But, I also like Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez because they're cute! ☺

That was my favorite line. This particular writer - Otherwise - is smart as hell and he has a mean sense of humor. If you go back and read those earlier posts of his predicting how the GOP was going to play out it's clear that he knows more about the process than most of the highly paid political analysts at the major outlets and bigger sites.
