Im a student currently studying history and computer science at UC Santa Cruz. I'm at current because the news is off-beat and the discussions are great. =)

I believe that most of my opinions are open and flexible, but don't hesitate to shoot me a message if you have something to say. I'm usually pretty rational, if occasionally thickheaded. Although I am always vulgar, I do not believe in censoring language.

Please note that my posts are heavily sardonic and are not usually meant to be heavily handed. I am very rarely angry about a subject. So if you feel offended by a post, try to imagine my comments as mocking and silly rather than some red-in-the-face lunatic pulling their hair out. They'll make more sense that way. ;)

If you had to waste your time you could probably classify me as slightly "liberal," but if your political thought is so unoriginal that you have to rely on labels and arbitrations to credit or discredit arguments, congratulations, you've lost the game. To put it simply, I believe in results, not labels.

Oh my oh my oh my oh MY!!!! Happy new year to all of you!

And what a wonderful, lovely, happy, enjoyable surprise for all of us!!!!!

Here it is, about 1 hour and 22 minutes 'til 2012 (here on the West [and left] Coast of the United States), and thanks to my very beautiful friend, I've just now fallen onto this creation of yours, remanns! Holy smokes!

remanns, thank you for all the impossibly timeless work and love you put into this, and I also want to thank the others who continued by adding more people who had some impact here on Current.

The thing about Current -- or the thing about Current that first attracted me/us, and continues to give me hope -- is the number of conscientious human beings who participate here, be it only occasionally or regularly.

Never, ever have I meant anyone harm here in this community, and I've tried my very best to not SHOVE DOWN YOUR THROATS all my beliefs, wishes, thoughts... but I haven't always succeeded in my subtleties. I've tried my damndest to not publicly hurt Current individuals, as has sometimes been the case against me (which I've never understood). Yes, I'm super-sensitive ("to a fault," say some), but damnit, I am who I am, and I care about what/whom I care about, and there are some things that I just rather hope will somehow get into someone else's heart and brain and create a difference in that person's life.

So to those of you who dislike all my vegan-related/animal rights-related "stuff," well, I can't apologize. At least I made a separate group (http://current.com/groups/animal-rights-veganism/) for that, so for folks who think I'm insane for loving ALL life equally, just don't read anything there, okay? And, at the same time, please don't attack or mock me FOR my love for all beings. [It does deeply, deeply hurt me -- and astound me -- when some of you make fun of my love for our animal friends, or who tease or taunt me by sharing ugliness towards animals; for instance, the "yummy" nonsense," the killing routines, etc.] You'll also have noticed that I'm planning to take down the "Veganism" group, because I try to be THAT ethical that I cannot believe there can be true animal rights UNLESS one goes vegan. Harsh for those who say they are animal lovers, but still will eat or use animals, but that is a part of who I am... PERIOD.

I keep quiet about my atheism, for the most part. After all, it's not my place to tell someone ELSE what to believe or not to believe... and, I'd sure love it if I'm actually wrong!

My apologies to the ones I don't stay personally in touch with -- it's time, life, blah, blah, blah. My apologies to the ones to whom I haven't personally written to say just how much I love and/or appreciate and/or respect your submissions or comments.

I've never wanted Current to be a popularity contest, so have done my best to not pay attention to badges, points, votes up, votes down, that sort of thing. I've never been in a clique, and have hardly ever been a committed joiner of anything -- ah, that's a ridiculous thing to write, since yes, I DO "belong" to, or participate in, certain organizations. But I try not to feel or behave as if I am superior to anyone else.

I'm home on this New Year's Eve because it just doesn't feel the way it did when I was growing up in New Jersey, where Midnight was "REALLY" the beginning of each new year. And I can't risk being on the roads with all the drunks. Admittedly, as well, I find these celebrations getting to be more and more "forced" in the way we're SUPPOSED to be feeling and acting, so I'd much prefer staying at home, either alone or with a friend or two, and listening to music, reading, playing with my beloved rescues, and just being QUIET for a change.

To be unofficially "recognized" here embarrasses me, but also makes me happy that some people are reading what matters to me… and maybe, just maybe, caring.

I’m not going to bring to everyone’s attention any of you in particular, but know that you are really cared about by me, and the spirit that seems to always overcome the adversities here is what keeps me here, whenever possible.

And now it’s only a little more than one hour ‘til “MY” new year’s eve. Wonder if I’ll even manage to stay up late enough to do nothing more than watch the clock tick over to Midnight… and 2012.

I wish everyone good health, much happiness, a way to peace… and I thank you for keeping this alive. Happy New Year from Susie, Mazi Wamukota, Dear Prudence, and other assorted rescues and fosters filling up my life with joy.
