Authorities in Tennessee are being accused of a coverup after marijuana was found at the house of a state official.
Tennessee police reportedly found marijuana in plain view when they entered the home of Alcoholic Beverage Commission (ABC) Director Danielle Elks to check for intruders.
The commission is in charge of eradicating marijuana in the state in addition to regulating alcohol sales.
An unnamed ABC employee came forward to tell WSMV that it was unfair Elks had not been investigated.
“I grant you, if that had happened to any of us (ABC employees), we would have been made an example of,” the ABC employee said. “We would have been in headlines in the papers, the news, and everywhere else.”
“Do you think this was a cover up?” WSMV’s Jeremy Finley asked.
“It sure appears that way,” the ABC employee replied. “It stayed mighty quiet for a long period of time.”
A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper and two Dickson County deputies had gone to Elks’ home on the night of Oct. 12 to inform her that her husband, Joel “Taz” Digregorio, a keyboardist with the Charlie Daniels Band, had been killed in a car crash. The officers entered the home after they discovered that the back door was open.
Police summaries obtained by WSMV showed that officers saw what they suspected to be marijuana on a table, describing it as a “green, leafy substance.” They also allegedly found rolling papers and a Governor’s Marijuana Eradication Task Force sticker.
“We’re all sympathetic of her loss, of her husband, I would not wish that upon any person at any time,” the ABC employee told Finley. “It’s illegal despite the circumstances behind it.”
For their part, the Tennessee Highway Patrol said they had asked the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) to investigate. The file was later forwarded to District Attorney General Dan Alsobrook, who declined to pursue the case.

Now if the police would start ignoring small amounts of drugs found in the possession of common people this country would be a better place.

Makes you wonder how much drug evidence is missing in the back store room?
In the next town over from me, it is known that the cops are the drug suppliers.
Or you get pulled over for a small joint the size of the tip of your pinkie.
Find your self in jail, with charges for like 1 pound of marijuana.
"How did that get there, Look what I found!"
http://www.motifake.com/image/demotivational-poster/0911/welcome-to-sergeants-dr...p.s It took me a while to understand why people here run from the cops. It's not that they don't want a speeding ticket, they are spooked that the cops will plant something on the car! It's a small town everyone knows everyone.

Back in my college pot smoking days I frequently bought marijuana that had been stolen from the evidence room in Louisville, Ky. This was back in the 1970s.

I have a problem with this. Here we have a substance that's been banned and demonized for decades. Possession is illegal. Yet mere possession is either prosecuted or no on the whim of the officer - or in this case the district attorney. So you're a bad guy if you use it make money, but maybe ok if you just use the shit? If it's not bad enough for everyone to go to jail for having it, then it shouldn't be illegal - it should be controlled. The inequity sucks.

Tough case here. Under the circumstances I think Joe Friday and sidekick Bill Gannon (Dragnet) would have been shown empathy for the loss but would have issued a firm warning about the suspicious substance. Then they walk away.... no report. If there's a next time.... you're busted.
(Good lesson here, though. Stuff happens. Keep your act clean.) - 4 months ago

She got that big hair thing goin' on...ABC Commisioner...awesome...she was "eradicating" one big fat one at a time...No surprise here...she would have immunity based on the immediate situation plus she probably passed out sample blunts to the boys/girls in blue or grey...whatever...:)

Oh whatever, I've known of (alleged) common criminals having their homes searched for stolen property, the suspect flat out tell the cop; "Just so you know, I have a little bit of pot in here."
To which the cop replied; "Unless you've go dealer quantities, say a pound or two, that's not what I'm here for, and it's not worth my time...."
(that guy was firing it up just after the cops left)
What's messed up, by law they are allowed to have a little say over what they choose to charge people with. I've known another person to get shook down for hard drugs, when all they found was a 1/4 bag of weed, the guy was able to talk them out of charging him.... Now the cop didn't let the guy keep it, but no charges....
They need to lighten up on everyone, it's fuct up they play favorites, and it's messed up some get a pass while others while others pay out the ass.... depending on the cop and your attitude.
But I mean other than that, I can't really call them out for being decent once, just for not being decent near enough....
