One of the worst of all of them happens to have his own radio show and this time, I am not even talking about rush Limbaugh. I am talking about Michael Savage who has also said in the past that "Autism is a phoney disease".
Yesterday he took it to a new level of low and blamed Roberts epilepsy as a root cause of his "cognitive dissociation" in the Obamacare ruling.
Where have all these angry conservatives been when the same Chief Justice voted that "Corporations Are People Too", among so many other very Republican leaning decisions??
Here is an article that I read in Think Progress that is enough to make you want to spit nails.
Conservatives Claim Roberts Upheld Obamacare Because Of ‘Cognitive Problems’ Due To Epilepsy Medication
By Guest Blogger on Jun 29, 2012 at 9:30 am
Chief Justice John Roberts — a George W. Bush appointee — surprised many conservatives when he wrote the majority opinion upholding Obamacare’s individual mandate, but now some conservative activists are trying to link the side effects of Roberts’ epilepsy medication to his jurisprudence.
On his radio show yesterday, right-wing host Michael Savage — who has previously called autism a “phony disease” — claimed that Roberts’ epilepsy is the root cause of his “cognitive dissociation” in the Obamacare ruling:
Let’s talk about Roberts. I’m going to tell you something that you’re not going to hear anywhere else, that you must pay attention to. It’s well known that Roberts, unfortunately for him, has suffered from epileptic seizures. Therefore he has been on medication. Therefore neurologists will tell you that medication used for seizure disorders, such as epilepsy, can introduce mental slowing, forgetfulness and other cognitive problems. And if you look at Roberts’ writings you can see the cognitive dissociation in what he is saying.
Listen:
Another right-wing radio host, Bryan Fischer, echoed Savage’s sentiments in a tweet citing a 2007 New York Times piece about the Chief Justice.
NYT, ’07: Roberts’ epilepsy meds “troubling side effects,” include “mental slowing and forgetfulness.”nyti.ms/LU0dgv
— Bryan Fischer (@BryanJFischer) June 29, 2012
In true form, the Drudge Report also linked to Savage’s comments in the wake of the ruling.
It’s remarkable that epilepsy is somehow still stigmatized significantly more than other neurological disorders. It’s even more remarkable that Savage, Fischer, and Drudge would stoop this low.

This is the kind of personal attack one remembers for a lifetime. It saddens me that cruel & ignorant idiots still disparage those having epilepsy. We've come a long way from the revered Oracles of Delphi.
Interesting that now Justice Roberts is feeling the real effects of Citizens United - unlimited paid speech against an individual, just because you can.

Hmm, would explain a lot. I sometimes wonder what Nancy Pelosis problem is and have said before that she should be drug tested.
I have no idea what Roberts medical history is. I wondered, after I heard his rationale on Obamacare if he had tripped and hit his head in his chambers.
Epilepsy would not cause this and neither should the meds he is taking for it, if this is the case, but since thoughts on the subject are a nickel a bunch thisis just another in the bucket. - 11 months ago

Being a person that for 33 years "has suffered from epileptic seizures", I take great offense by this entire "bullsh!t notion". I was 16 at the onset of my condition and can honestly say that my mental abilities are not comprised in any way by the medication I take.
Perhaps they might have something to chew on if he had made his decision at the onset of or after awakening from a seizure, the only time someone with epilepsy would be mentally impaired.
Its bad enough that those of us with epilepsy still face the ugly stigmatize of this condition. Harsher restrictions are already placed on those with epilepsy versus people who suffer from various other ailments. Are we now suppose to submit ourself to public scrutiny every time we choose to make a decision?
These idiots are doing nothing more than trying to cover their ass after weeks of foretelling how the Supreme Court was going to slap down ObamaCare. They all asserted with certianty on how the Court would rule, and had assured their followers that they new the "real truth", and only they that gift of certian foresight.

I out grew my epilepsy when I was about 12. I do remember being tired all the time. I was taking phenobarbital and it robbed me of my energy. I still did OK in school so I do not see the medicine affecting intelligence.
I am sure that everything was considerably more archaic back in the 60's and 70's when I was going through it than today. I hope things are better for you today. I wish you the very best and I will keep a good thought for you.

I am one of the fortunate ones, my condition is under complete control by my nightly meds. For the first few weeks, the pheno did cause drowsiness and fatigue, but my system soon become accustom to it and it has not caused anymore adverse effects.
The only mental confusion I have ever felt has been due to a seizure itself. Right before a seizure, as well as a short time afterwards, mental capacity is severely diminished. This is understandable considering the entire nervous system goes into a state of extreme overload. Confusion clouds reality and memories are not clear.
I hold a "normal" job, I drive, I have a so-called "normal" lifestyle. I work in people's homes repairing appliances all day in which I am constantly dealing with live electricity. Many of the homes I go into are extremely expensive and I am surrounded by valuable items. Because of my medications, I do not have to worry about my seizures.

The way that Supreme Court Justices work is that they assign teams of law clerks (usually recent graduates at or near the top of their classes from what are known as "national law schools." I attended a national law school - which prepares their graduates to practice in any state, with the possible exception of Louisiana which has modelled its legal system on the French "Napoleonic Code" system rather than the English "Common Law" system that the rest of the states use) to each of the cases on which the Justice will be expected to rule during a particular term.
The team of clerks engages in intensive legal research in the area(s) of law involved in each case. They prepare memoranda for review by the justice and, after the Justice has had time to review these memoranda, meet with the Justice to discuss the case and tailor their continued research to support the Justice's views. The Justices also meet with each other to refine their views and to provide additional direction to their clerks.
When a particular Justice is expected to draft the majority's decision, these clerks are called upon to work especially hard to provide the Justice with solid legal arguments and (hopefully) very precise language that gets to the heart of the case without conflicting with previous decisions by the Court. Occasionally, an issue is of such importance that the Court cannot issue its ruling without overturning its own precedent, but such occasions are rare.
The point I am getting at is that the process of issuing a decision is very much a team process in which very fine legal minds assist the Justices at every point. While I disagree with many of Justice Roberts' positions, I have no reason to doubt either his professional competence or the competence of the legal team he has assembled to help him with his work. These allegations against him are both ignorant and repugnant.
I suffer from RA, so I sometimes have to schedule my days around my pain. But in 21 years of practice I have lost exactly one case. A physical challenge does not translate into a lack of mental or intellectual acuity.

I love it. Seeing the circular firing squad puzzled as to what they're supposed to do has been ten times better than having to watch the democratic party lament another set back. As many point out, they were betrayed by one of their own. They expected CJ Roberts to act us unruly and uncompromising as they have since President Obama took office. I applaud the Chief Justice for this decision only as he seemed to be feeling the angst of the public that the court was biased and made every effort to make it constitutional. I don't suppose it has occurred to Savage-Weiner that SOME people probably own stock in insurance companies and the mandate being struck down would be a blow to Big Insurance sales and marketing?
Or that if the mandate was struck down, Big Insurance would actually be funding a mini-stimulus by having to pay some rebates to a lot of working and middle class people. Those are the groups that tend to SPEND money on Main Street and that would actually give the economy a mini-bump which would, by their own logic, have to be 'blamed' on Obama.
ROFLMVO. Poor schmucks. No matter what, they get screwed. And while they are screaming at Roberts, let's give the Chief Justice ::cough cough:: his due, he just provided a terrific GOTV motivation for the baggers and other fools.
