some of us love this place - - -

still working on what I have to say about this - - -
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

sometimes, it just goes away,
not because of you, or in spite of you,and .......
....NOT,
......because......
. . . O'
what you did.

places and voices and a well received rebuke and back and forth and 'we don't agree' and 'where the fuck are YOU from'?

and it all sort of fades away.

with luck,......QUICKLY.

sometimes,...........not so much.

It just happens.

but WE, We always, remember,.....
until , whatever happens,.... that MAKES US,,,, forget, family members,.....
- it happens,....
against all our wishes and will

and we are ALONE
as we began

I find it odd how I am unable to log into current with any other browser other than Explorer since the site was sold... hmn. I have been very busy the past two months and was surprised to learn of the sale , not because of the buyer, but because of the venom that was spewed by many of my friends on the right .

I truely believe this site can and does reach far deeper than 'we' may suspect and I still have pride in wearing my old Current T-shirt , not because of the new owners, but because of the caliber of the community passion for a better world.

Things can only change at one point in time - Current (now)

" Death is the beginning of awe " ...When I think of all the awesome features
this website used to have but jettisoned like a plane loosing altitude would
to keep aloft...Who knows ? Perhaps Al Jezeera America will be the voice
to power their return. I hope so. Time will tell. We'll have to wait to see what
happens. The vitality of this social interactive community will either bounce
      back or ?

Maybe they're changing it from the inside out.

Maybe they're going to keep this community function going--keeping it WAY underground.

I'm starting to think you're right. I can't see the new management using this type of format.

Here's hoping that something good comes from it all. I still think this forum is one of the best models out there, and it would be a true shame if they let it go to waste.

It has been the place to express my feelings and ideas...

I laughed, cried, got angry, and enjoyed every single moment....

I will truly miss each one of the amazing people here...

I learned so much from each of you & forever will treasure this amazing journey...

We will see each other in another site or maybe in the next chapter of current :D

    • Death itself is a great and wonderful natural cycle which is quite lovely even if it is sad. It's a strange experience looking down at someone you loved knowing you will never talk and share great moments with them again. But you can celebrate their life and embrace the inevitable fact that nothing lasts forever.

The sun itself will eventually die and to think I might have something in common with the sun is brilliant. All hail the mighty sun, the rock, the frog and the snake who is also cool. And just as all things must die, all things must change (and plus on the internet you can make your own site and post whatever you like on it).

...plus the all great money beast god devours everything. YUM YUM YUM
then chuckles with rolling laughter, then it eats some more
people scamper up to it's feet to collect the odd coins it drops
      It looks down with contempt
      YUM YUM YUM YUM

    • So far as it seems.

"Obviously there will be a lot of transition work in the coming weeks. Al Jazeera does not have a management team in place in the U.S to run this new venture. They are extremely impressed with our people and our accomplishments. I will be holding staff meetings in the next few days and will introduce the senior folks from Al Jazeera who have led the planning for this entry into the United States. (I will separately communicate as to the day and time for those staff meetings.) We will communicate more of the details of this acquisition during those meetings."

***This will take time! I am hoping they just replace the logo on the website part here & do not delete all the data. I don't think they would be that mad!

    • I hate to say it but Current TV was a big disappointment for me. When I first heard about I thought it was great idea. It was a way of getting the news from the people - real citizen journalism. I signed up to Current TV over 6 years ago. It had its problems back then with some viewers being too picky or being too easily swayed by style not context but at least it was member-driven.

When I got my own story aired on Current I was thrilled and hoped it would lead to more things. Instead they practically cut out all member contributions.

For a while members were still able to interact with the programming and member comments would be posted on TV. But even this was taken from us and soon after the member part of the site was regulated to the background.

By this time Current TV had completely changed and was unrecognizable to us old members. Now they had slick professional programming with minimal input from members. While Vanguard is good it isn't necessarily citizen journalism as it is intended to be. They are basically semi-professional reporters being sent out on assignments like any reporter for a major news agency would be. Granted they covered stories not often covered but it again it wasn't citizen journalism.

I used to post and comment here a lot but over time I just lost interest bit by bit because it just seemed like some forum like any other and not really related to Current TV certainly not to the original vision of Current TV.

So if Current TV dies and becomes something completely different under this new management, it won't move me much to tears because Current died a long time ago. We have just been picking at the bones.

I can understand your disappointment, even though I am not a long-time member.

The concept of citizen journalism is great (Al Jazeera does have a strong track record on that).

Unfortunately, at least since I have been here, many of the contributions on Current seemed to be not so much "citizen journalism" as links to MSM reports -- some even from the likes of such rightwing media such as FoxNews or the DailyMail. Or second-hand from HuffingtonPost,

Yes, there were some original articles -- DeliaTheArtist's delightful and well researched series on the suffragettes springs to mind here, as does a recent video on the little-known German community in Jamaica (sorry, forgot who posted it) -- but many were little more than rambling self-promoting "opinion" videos better suited to YouTube.

We make of it what we can.

    • MolliBlum:

the contributions today or rather as they have been for the past several years were never meant to be citizen journalism because Current TV was no longer accepting them. This place became just a forum to either post your own stuff or news items for discussion mainly just for the members as it wasn't going any where. This is basically just another forum whereas before it wasn't.

Before contributions was the main goal with discussions being a distant second. There weren't many self-promoting opinion vlogs back then. Those didn't get many votes nor support from the staff. Like I said, it was a completely different animal back then. what you see here though slicker is nothing at all what the old Current was both site and channel.

I really would hate to see this site dismantled. I really did not and have not connected this forum in my head with the TV network. If nothing else, keep the forum and just change the name?

Well, it seems there won't be a "current" as they intend to change the name to Al Jazeera America.
Maybe there will be a comments section. Maybe they will maintain the user-generated content of this section. I guess it remains to be seen.
But, even if they scrap this aspect of it, it seems a small price to pay to get decent access to international news from a relatively unbiased (no such thing as completely unbiased) network that was so vehemently and aggressively opposed by the Bush administration as a "propaganda organization" just because its coverage did not always show US military intervention abroad in a positive light .

I am afraid I just don't have that much difficulty researching "news",......but ol' c u r r e n t on line was, once upon a time at least, really a FINE "variety channel" as it were, and personally I find that a more rewarding and valuable resource than, well,....ANY "TV".

I do miss Caprica and Battlestar Galactica though.

NPR and the internet is really enough for news. Well,....the emergency broadcast system has its place.

Some of the members have been a part of the Current Community for a very long time. It seems only natural and human that a certain attachment has grown out of that. What is faced is the unknown and that seems to be the point that many are making here. It is the looming "death" or end to what we know.

This place is not only words, opinions and articles it is fueled with passion. Some days it's like a bad soap opera and other days I've witnessed a community reaching out to members who might have been in harms way or are suffering through a crisis.

Current is unique in it's format as far as I know, where you are allowed to post articles; join, create and add to different categories of interest. There were a few shows I viewed on Current TV, most are gone. Change happens, it's inevitable.

      So, we'll see what happens.

Thanks Remanns for putting up this thread.

I never got into Battlestar much other than the 80's!

This looks good to me! Vikings!

History scored earlier this year with a dramatic, mini-series retelling of the legendary drama between the dueling Hatfield and McCoy clans, and the cable network is once again dipping back into legend again with a new series Vikings, which will debut early next year. Following our first-look photo, EW has an exclusive sneak peek at the series — starring Gabriel Byrne, Travis Fimmel, Jessalyn Gilsig, Gustaf Skarsgard (yes, brother of Alexander and son of Stellan), Clive Standen, and Katheryn Winnick — via the debut trailer.

"Life seems a tangle. An inner tangle and an outer tangle.
This generation is hopelessly tangled up.
And so I ask the Buddha this question:
Who will succeed in disentangling this tangle?"

      The Buddha replied:
"When a wise one, thoughtful and good, develops a

    • As for all the flack on the viewers, the website part.
The stories covered here is like no where else on any news site.
As in like a story I did about Walmart.

"The Compensation, Nominating and Governance Committee (the “Committee”) is appointed by the Board to: (1) discharge the Board's responsibilities relating to the compensation of the Company's directors, executive officers and associates; (2) assist the Board in identifying individuals qualified to serve as Board members; and (3) assist the Board in the implementation of sound corporate governance principles and practices."
Where do you really get that kind of story at, other than here?

Or as in a story about "Theistic evolution"

Or connected stories, as in "Heaven turns on the light?"
So strange & shocking it fits! And answers a few ?'s you might have!

Others have stories also that are covered really nowhere else!

The viewers? More in less they are people from other news sites.
Or piped in to DC etc. The views look small but believe me they are not!
I do a WHOIS test sometimes & sometimes it points to DC!
Or even going to the "accuweather" website puts me at that location.

Anyway the truth of the matter Current website matters!

I believe their first goal will be to develop followers, not shuck-offs and with followers you gain popularity. MediaCorp is betting on AJE falling on it's ass because of who they are and the Bush Era anti-western/pro -Moslem smears when they truthfully covered the Gulf War. WE actually are Currents followers and I believe we won't be sold down the river by AJE , unlike MediaCorp who also believe Americans aren't interested in world affairs , just trash news . AJE doesn't cover Anna Nichole Smith 24/7 but does cover, unbiased events world wide and not just in the Moslem world. I've followed them for years to get truth in journalism and I bet they're gonna be happy having an open forum. Hang in there and never stop dreaming !

The fact that Algebra was invented in the Muslin world has always impressed me . Before the crusades they seemed to seek understanding of all creation . I think the Terrible effect the crusades had may well have radicalized the power structures of the Muslim world faster than they would have done themselves . Look what the Christians did to Copernicus and Galileo . Top down power structures collect and focus power . They mutate into aristocracy over time . Current is kind of lateral . Less prone to the evils of fascism i think . It remains to be seen what happens next .
