Joe Biden Says No Need To Own Assault Weapons: 'Buy A Shotgun!'

During a Facebook Town Hall hosted by Parents magazine, Biden took a handful of questions from readers about gun violence. One questioner named Kate asked how gun owners would be able to sufficiently protect themselves if Congress passed a bill banning certain weapons and high-capacity gun magazines.
"Kate, if you want to protect yourself, get a double barreled shotgun," Biden responded. "I promise you, as I told my wife, we live in an area that's wooded and somewhat secluded. I said, Jill, if there's ever a problem, just walk out on the balcony here, walk out, put [up] that double barreled shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house."
The vice president said that by firing two shotgun blasts, anyone who might be trying to break in would be scared off.
"You don't need an AR-15," he said. "Buy a shotgun! Buy a shotgun!"
Biden fielded a handful of other questions about gun reform proposals. He said he doesn't support making changes to the Second Amendment and described America's "really healthy gun culture," which was a "part of my father's ethic." He clarified to another questioner that nobody wants to take away people's guns.
"I have two shotguns at home," he said. "No one is going to come and take my guns."
Biden appeared to get testy in some moments. When one person suggested that gun reforms would infringe on people's constitutional rights, Biden began his response by muttering, "How can I say this politely?"
He also described his younger days of shotgun use, which were around the same time he was driving around in his cherished 1967 Corvette.
"Still have it," Biden said.

That comment is wrong. You can buy any fire arm you want if you fill out the proper paper work and pass a background check. Be it fully automatic with a suppressor or a custom made job such as a 338 Norma.

OK if you read it a certain way you are correct. The NFA guns out now cannot be transferred to civilians. Civilians can possess NFA guns if they do the Form 4, fingerprint card and a CLEO letter but the supply of NFA guns available to civilians is set. Current law enforcement, dealer samples and military stuff is not available to civilians. Only the military and law enforcement have access to the real thing. Civilians cannot buy these at retail. My apologies for the confusion.

I have a LOT of experience with privately held NFA guns. Don't get your panties in a bunch. Yes I am aware the we can also own belt fed including a minigun. Also you are not reading my posts. You guys do this with annoying regularity. I never said you could not buy one after 1986. However, if it makes you feel any better, fine, I know nothing about what I am talking about and you know everything. This crap is getting old. It's tough to have a civil conversation around here.

What a complete IDIOT. This is the guy who is a heartbeat away from the presidency. I look at this advice and the reactions to what a sheriff said about confiscation of guns bringing the second American Revolution and am convinced that the posters to the latter are even bigger fools than Biden.
So the solution to someone on your property is to fire into the air. First of all, anyone who knows anything (self explanatory as to why Biden said this) knows that warning shots are a no-no. You can't use deadly force against a mere trespasser (even Biden could not be stupid enough to propose this remedy against a home invasion........could he????). It is even possible that firing to frighten may result is felony charges against the homeowner. Even if someone avails themselves of this and uses buckshot you could have in excess of 30 projectiles in both rounds, much more if shot was the load.
This is as ignorant as Joe Salazar, Colorado Democrat, saying that if a woman is attacked, in order to prevent herself from being raped she should have a whistle evidently to bring help.

Your right and how about the people a block away that get hit with shot. I have a farmer neighbor about a mile from me that does that, he shoots off his porch. Here you can shoot on your own land but you better know where the shot is going, if someone gets hit you'll be in jail. It's hard to justify self defense if it's more than 21 feet, or they better have a weapon.

"Do you even pay attention to what you read?...No where do I say that " it's unreasonable to defend your home with a gun?" "
Yeah, I fucking did. A lot more closely than you did.
If you had the slightest grasp of logic, you could understand the implications of statements like....
" First of all, anyone who knows anything...knows that warning shots are a no-no. "
So you can't shoot at them, you can't use less-than-lethal rounds and you can't even fire the weapon just to frighten them....
...which implies that it is essentially useless to own a gun.
Keep in mind, you're calling Biden an idiot because of this. Not because of anything related to gun control.
Then you're dumb enough to say...
"This is as ignorant as Joe Salazar, Colorado Democrat, saying that if a woman is attacked, in order to prevent herself from being raped she should have a whistle evidently to bring help. "
Well, what did you just call Biden an idiot for doing?
You think that the same rules don't apply here.
Keep in mind, what you're refuting Biden on is literally the entire basis for the right-wing argument in favor of owning any and all weapons.
The dreaded "home intruder" who's out to kill you and your family. Which is what Biden is responding to. Claiming that it's not going to kill you if you need to defend your home with a shotgun instead of an AR-15.
So, I'll say it again since apparently you need everything explicitly said to you.
Why are you so fervently mad at Biden if you don't even agree with the premise that you can use a gun to defend yourself?

YOu must have pulled the idea that I don't agree with the premise that a person can defend themself with a gun right out of your butt. I am going to copy my post AGAIN so that you can re-read it, comprehension seems to be not your forte, and perhaps answer your own questions.

What mortal is qualified to ordain what and how GOD intends to work his ways and will?
What mortal is qualified to ordain whether GOD supports the 2nd Amendment or not?
What mortal is qualified to ordain whether GOD supports lethal self defense, or not.
What mortal is qualified to ordain whether GOD means that "turn the other cheek" equals rendering one's self defenseless against lethal threat, or not?
It occurs to me that those who appropriate GOD's prerogatives and exclusive omniscience, and purport to speak for GOD, are themselves Blasphemers, suggesting that God is limited and can only work it's will in one man determined way. This very idea is to refute the fundamental essence of God, as most in the world understands GOD's alpha/omega, omniscience, omnipotence and omnipresence to be.
When and where was the Biblical teaching that GOD works in mysterious ways discredited?

This is perhaps the most disingenuous and nonsensical comment I've ever heard Joe make.

What is she facing? A Zombie invasion? Your scenario is a Hollywood fantasy and extremely laughable as a counterargument. Please, please, please try to actually apply common sense for the common good for yourself and all of us who read your ridiculous conjecture.

She may hear noise or a disturbance, and pop off those two shots, but it doesn't mean she saw who or what to shoot at. Joe's suggesting that the mere firing of those shots will end any violent intent irrespective of it's nature. It's nonsensical and disingenuous at best.

tsk, tsk... I won't lower myself to attacking you back. It seems that the fact Jill is the wife of a United State's Vice President registers as insignificant and inconsequential to a potential attacker, in YOUR SENSIBILITIES... It makes it not worth commenting on.

I have taught my Wife to fire mid torso and to go into the back room and when they walk down the hall let them have it. squeeze the trigger and slide the slide easy as pie.
P.S. you are right as far as needing more than two shots for best results.

At close distances you have to aim a shot gun, Police sometimes fire 30 rounds with no hits.

you're not making any sense, commonsense. The fact is your scenario is ridiculous and something out of a Hollywood movie not reality. And jump over the balcony? Who are these invaders - super villains who can leap over balconies? Do you even know what a balcony is?

Good, a lot of people think a shotgun spreads 3 feet in a house, at 40 yards it would be around 3 feet in a house 20 to 30 feet it might spread 2 or 3 inches. I also used to duck hunt and I have no sight on my duck gun. I hit what I shoot at. This old saying is a true one "beware of the man with only one gun he may know how to use it". I have one pistol that I have shot for over 40 years and have shocked people shooting snakes, turtles and targets.

I live in SC. I read all the time where the cops miss. Look at the ex cop they were looking for, I think it said they shot over 60 rounds at the wrong truck and wounded two women. Those two cops are lucky to be alive, if that had of happened to me I would have shot back. On the TV show "COPs" they miss at 6 or 7 feet.

With rifling it will spread, a slug gun would spread the shot at 20 feet. My derringer shoots 410 or 45 Long Colt, with buckshot it's good for a little over 20 feet, I wish it didn't have rifling then the range would be further.

That's a tried and true defense bailey, but I hope she'll never have to resort to it. However, not to prepare actually invites attacks, like the small and meek mannered child on a playground of bullies. There's no reward in lamenting reality, but there are great rewards in accepting and dealing with it, even if it's only deterrence.

The pattern from buckshot at 7 yard from a cylinder bore gun is about 6". You can miss with a shotty.

Joe thinks a shotgun spreads four feet in 20 feet, the spread is around 3 feet at 40 yards, both him and a lot of people on this site think a shotgun is safer than an AR15, a shotgun with buckshot will go thru 4 or 5 walls and hit the neighbors house an AR15 in .223 caliber will go thru one wall and brake up in fragments. Joe said to take to shotgun outside and fire it, a shotgun with a slug will go 900 yards and could kill someone if it hit them, Buckshot would go over 100 yards and could kill someone.

With the border problems I'm sure they would shoot better than other States. The police here are taught to fire as soon as the gun clears the holster, that would cause two misses at the start of the fight. I guess they figure that will shake up the bad guy.

I know what SASS is. You don't have border problems like the other States? I personally don't like open carry except on your own land. We have concealed carry and most of the cops are OK with it because the crime rate did drop. So your cops are like the cops that shot up the truck the other day while looking for the ex cop. That would make me nervous.
