Wargaming

FHProductions
It is said that history repeats itself but sometimes it can actually change. That is if you engage in Wargaming. Come discover the history, artistry and cast of characters in the macabre world of wargaming. There are complex rules, international clubs and actual conventions where men, women and children alike can band together and wargame. Revisit the Battle of Little Big Horn and this time triumph as Napoleon in the Battle of Waterloo. This is a passive playground where history is in the making….................................................................................................................

    • Great music, pace and "interviews". A wonderful intro to the hobby for the uninitiated. Might be even more persuasive with more panoramic views, of more highly detailed terrain and battles. More cheering/emotion during "battle". Thanks.

    • Pretty cool looking stuff. I might check it out sooner or later.

And that would be great if we can settle our disputes though gaming instead of warfare

    • As a wargamer of some 35 years experience, this is GREAT stuff! The visual effect of a whole table (usually about 8 feet by 5 feet) full of terrain, figures, &c., doesn't really translate well to photographuy or video, though. You really have to see such a game to fully realize the impact and appeal of the hobby.

    • Thanks for the GL's.

And thanks sloan... Your comment prompted my curiousity about this new generation of wicked cgi'd to the max xbox games... so I played Battlefield for the first time. And what a train of thought that experience set off. The immediacy of it all, the graphic life-like simulation really made me wonder about the two in relation to each other. It's like the yin and the yang.

    • For a future pod, I'd love to see in-person wargamers matched up with computer wargamers. What's similar? What's different? Do the communities overlap... or despise each other? It would be fun to take a computer gamer to one of these matches and get his reaction.

    • Thank you for the constructive criticism. We felt that as a short this piece would be more like a teaser, a quick peek (well... maybe not so quick) into the obscure world of wargaming. We are looking to expand the project into something longer and then we will definitely incorporate a story, show more footage as you suggest of games being played, etc..

    • interesting, but I don't get the sense of a greater story - more separate elements of the game/hobby.

there is a lot of talk about the play of a game, but we never really see the game being played. how does one player take a piece from another? when does the game end? does a person surrender? are there any famous matches?

maybe the info about the wargaming could be framed around the narrative of one match.

    • never knew about this! reminds me of the scene from chitty chitty bang bang when the grandfather and sweet factory owner go at it. would like see a few other people in the video for variety but would also like to see a tighter edit. good stuff for teens who are trying to stay off the streets.

    • Aw RATS, Ruth... you filmed my GRAND CIRQUE DU WABASH race "peace game" at this event and there's none of it on here! :-D

You might have focused on the alternative periods or the less traditional sorts of events just to show some variety. And if you shot any Napoleonics, that is what I would have used to demonstrate great uniforms, not neccesarily the ancients you used.

Other than that, I love it.. not very biased, and wargamers don't look like secret cultists or something. Nice effort, I will spread the word.

    • Nice, but could be a bit flashier, then the six-minute length would not seem too long. Show games from other eras, say tanks from WWII, maybe some naval games (triremes or battleships). Space games with the starship Enterprise or Star Wars figures might increase interest.

    • This is a fascinating look at a subculture that is all new to me...it could probably be more compact and in your face. I was drawn in regardless.
