i have always been a fan of nintendo and i am happy that they have their market share back seeing they are the only game company in the console business. with that said, i do miss the days of the gamecube and n64 where, although there was a lack of games, nearly every game nintendo or their second parties put out was a keeper. now every game that they come out with is a way to sell some peripheral. once they get there technology down i hope they go back to making some tripple A titles.

Casual and young gaming is still the cash cow of the market.
Clueless moms will buy their kids whatever stupid game has a brand name they recognize. Doesn't matter whether they're great or terrible.
It's insane that the PS2 outsold the PS3, tells you something about next-gen consoles.
And god damn, DS's outsold PSP's by nearly 10 to 1!
That's a shame, because the PSP really is a hell of a lot better. The DS has very little going for it, I haven't touched mine in a while.
Hopefully the drop in all these other markets will let the PC roll back in.

I do like the PSP a lot, but you've gotta admit it has a LOT less games coming out these days than the DS. And with rumors of a new PSP in the works starting to surface in April, I'm sure that stopped some people from rushing out to buy one as well.
Also, check out my defense of the DS here: http://blogs.current.com/gaming/2009/05/14/gaming-on-the-go-the-essentials/

Oh no I like both my consoles equally, and yeah it's true that PSP games are sluggish to come out.
But think about it, what actually comes out for the DS that's any good?
I like the Castlevanias, maybe some of the Mario games, Advanced Wars, Pheonix Wright, Brain Age, maybe Nintendogs and uhhh, suddenly my list grows thin.
The PSP, on the contrary, has a shitload of games that are just way better. A whole array of Final Fantasies including FF Tactics (which is one of the best games ever IMO), Metal Gear Solid, GTA, Star Wars Battlefront, God of War, Supreme Commander and other strategy games, Killzone, Syphon Filter, Jeanne D'Arc, Castlevania Dracula X (which has got circle of the moon on it, best Castlevania ever pretty much), and the list goes on and on.
Sure the DS might literally have MORE titles, but most of them are really shitty. Not that the PSP is a shining beacon but, it has internet access and music and can be modded to play homebrew and PS1 games.
The DS is sweet but, it's gathering dust in my drawer right now.

The hold that Nintendo has over the software sales is just incredible -- and all older games aside from Pokemon Platinum too. Geez.
