The Weekly Stack -- May 29, 2009

Plants vs. Zombies -- I sunk way more time than I had expected or planned into Plants vs. Zombies this week. PopCap Games has continued their tradition of crafting simple but deceptively addictive games. Despite that "casual" title that makes some people cringe, I would recommend that everyone at least check out the demo.
Patapon 2 -- As one of my main Memorial Day games, I wasted the better part of my long weekend tapping buttons to the beat provided by Patapon's adorable little hunter-gatherers. There's definitely a steep difficulty curve here, but even as I started bumping into more and more painful sections, I also started feeling like I'm finally getting into the groove of the gameplay.
The Godfather II -- Last week, Godfather II was in my lower stack of shameful wants that I never actually found any time for. This week, I was able to sink a few more hours in, finally beginning to explore the city of Miami and learning how to take on multiple rival gangs at once. I'm still enjoying the simple-but-fun gameplay, but the stupid video game dialogue grafted onto Godfather II's epic plot is starting to bother me.
Infamous -- If you read the release list on the Current Gaming blog (http://blogs.current.com/gaming/2009/05/28/hitting-the-shelves-week-of-may-25-20...), then you know how unbelievably psyched for Infamous I was. Unfortunately, I've barely been able to dig into it since picking it up earlier in the week. Here's hoping I can put a dent into it this weekend before taking off for all the E3 fun next week.
Bionic Commando -- I'm a bit behind, but my copy of this just showed up this week. Unfortunately, between Plants vs. Zombies and my lust for Infamous, I haven't been as motivated to open it up and get gaming as usual. For those in the audience who've played it, is it worth it?

1/ GTA: Chinatown Wars (DSi) -- top of my stack, blame the train. sadly, i get most of my gaming in on the rails.
2/ Fallout 3 (XBox 360) -- i'm completely locked in on Fallout these days. been making some serious ground, and side quests are always fun. this game is soooooo good.
3/ PunchOut!! (Nintendo Wii) -- finally spent some time with this one. it's awesome. i need to post my video review (and if you haven't yet, you should too!)
4/ Left4Dead (XBox 360) -- didn't play this at all this week, but it's the most frequently played out of the rest of my pile so it grabs #4. if anyone out there wants to swap gamertags and take on some zombie hordes, let me know.
5/ Street Fighter IV (XBox 360) -- i only kept this on at #5 to illustrate a point. PunchOut!! usurped SF IV for the week, and that's WITH gimpy online multiplayer.
till next week!

I'm a game short of my Stack this week but that's fine I wouldn't have found time to get around to a fifth anyway. Although if I stopped sleeping I might have found time to work Punch-Out to the mix.
Broken Sword - I wasn't much of a PC gamer back when games like this came out so I picked this up to see what I was missing. It turns out I was missing quite a lot and I hope that it does well and other point and click adventure classics turn up on the DS.
inFAMOUS - I went from excited to cautious after playing the demo and now I'm way passed excited about this game. The demo turned me off of it a bit because I felt that they dropped you into a warzone without a lot of time to get acclimated to the controls and the abilities of Cole. The game does a much better job of introducing you to your powers and providing a nice progression of challenges. This is definitely a can't miss title if you own a PS3.
WoW - I've spent a fair amount of time grinding out some heroics on my DK so that I can pick up some BoA items for some of my alts. There's too many DK's in the endgame and not enough healers so I'm leveling either a resto shammy or a resto druid and so I picked up the shoulders for both. Not much more to say about WoW.
Super Robot Taisen - I've cooled so much on this title it's ridiculous. The combat which I at first found to be fun and interesting has become boring and tedious and now I'm just praying that this game comes to an end soon.
There you go that's my stack for the week.
