Daylight, melee weapons, roving witches, and that's only the beginning. If you were worried that L4D 2 is just a cash-in then you can stop worrying right now. It may seem too soon, for a sequel, but with all then new features and content that Valve is packing in to this one.

Firstly we have the introduction of daylight. First of all, note that night time has not been replaced. While there is at least one campaign that takes place entirely during the daylight hours, at least one other one (out of five) will take place entirely at night. Mostly however, the campaigns will mix and match, and as you may have guessed, the infected are much more active during the day (including the witch).

And speaking of the infected, there is now a larger variety of them. Firstly the ranks of the boss infected will be growing, starting with the charger, who will run up and grab a survivor, then proceed to smash them into the ground repeatedly. Possibly more excitingly, the regular infected will be gaining some variety, starting with infected scientists who will be resistant to flames. That power could indeed come in handy for them, as the survivors will now be able to find incendiary rounds scattered in various places.

Last, but certainly not least, the finales are getting an upgrade. While the old finales were undeniably exiting, it was easy enough to simply find one good spot and hold out right there for the whole thing. Not in L4D 2 though. This time around the finales will find our would be heroes on the move during the finale, thus precluding the holdout tactic. In short the new moving finale promises to be far more exiting that it's predecessor.

Unfortunately all the good does come with some bad, in the form of a melee system that while a cool idea, is kinda pointless since you drop the weapon when you switch or heal, and the weapons themselves can be slow as molasses. Furthermore the character models seem less than inspiring.

While there is some bad, there seems to be more good. Personally I can't wait for the release of L4D 2.
