Blizzard Release Warcraft Armory App for iPhone

gazimoff
In a move that's been rumoured for some time, Blizzard Entertainment today finally released an application for the iPhone and iPod Touch that allows access to the Warcraft Armory. Dubbed the World of Warcraft Mobile Armory, the app allows a player to view their list of characters or search for others, plan talent builds and compare achievements. In a further interesting twist it also provides access to the in-game calendar, meaning that responding to in-game event invitations suddenly becomes much easier. The app also provides access to the Warcraft item database.

The move has been anticipated since April this year, when Blizzard sent a Cease and Desist letter to other developers that had already produced iPhone applications that carried out similar functions. Although some of the apps were available free of charge, others had a price tag attached and it was felt that this is what Blizzard were trying to stop. Today's release shows that Blizzard were intending to release their own app to fill the gap.

The Mobile Armory is the second Warcraft app, alongside the Blizzard Mobile Authenticator. Both are available free from the iTunes App Store.

      Yes, it does.

I've got it running on my 3GS at the moment. The first time you fire it up, it asks for your username and password. From that, it pulls up all your characters and presents them in a "My Characters" list. You can pick your main character from the edit button, and that character's guild and calendar tabs will be shown on the app's home screen. You can also view the guild and calendar tabs of all your alts from their individual character screens.

The really cool thing is you can accept and decline calendar invites from the app, so if raid invites go up you can accept them from within the app and see who else is signed up.
