American Gangster-A Must See

Image

I saw American Gangster with Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe yesterday, and recommend it. It is a factual and real depiction of the life of Frank Lucas, the drug kingpin who started out as the driver for Harlem mob boss Bumpy Johnson (Clarence Williams III,) and his ascension to millionaire due to selling heroin straight from the Golden Triangle in Thailand during the VIetnam War which he had delivered in the coffins of dead soldiers, and the inner workings of his own organization that bypassed even the mob. It also depicts the life of Richie Roberts, the cop from NJ who finally brings him down and then works with him to expose foreign nationals and cops on the take dealing confiscated drugs. It was real to me, because I lived through the seventies and felt like I was back again watching this film, and yes, the music is good too. I would say if Denzel Washington is not given a nod for an Oscar nomination as well as Russell Crowe, it would be a crime (pardon the pun.)

    • My friend Laura told me it was a great movie, but that it was sooo long. Im not too into movies to begin with, especially at the theater...I can't stand sitting in the seats for that long. I'd much rather wait until it comes out on DVD and rent it so I can sit in the comfort of my own home and watch it...its great to be able to pause it and run to the bathroom without missing any of the movie! I'll put it on my list to rent when it comes out =)

    • Loved it. The left out so much that happened in his life that lead and attributed to Frank Lucas as an individual but overall it was an amazing screenplay and of course Denzel and Russell stepped up to
challenge and played their roles wonderfully.

at the begining it was frustrating me because of its slow development. I hang on tough... By the start of the final 2/3 of the movie it had me completely hooked!!

      the wait... TOTALLY WORTH IT!

      hIGHLY REWARDING, LOL

GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT. PROVED TRUE 4 ME!

    • Am I the only one who thought this film was WAY too long? At 2 hours and 40 minutes, I was fidgeting in my seat for at least an hour. I liked the movie and would have loved it if they shaved a good 40 minutes off of the total run time.

    • 13:50 huh? I watched it online Friday night for free. And I have no problems with that. If actors and athletes were paid on a more reasonable scale I would go to the movies, or the ballpark. Until then? I will continue to watched pirated movies.
But I do recommend this movie. It was AWESOME. That Denzel is a great actor

American Gangster is the week's winner, and I am proud to say that my hubby and I contributed 13.50 of those dollars (we went to the Friday matinee). I totally agree with JanforGore - it was a great film. I really enjoyed it. Crazy story.
