What happened to Disney? I remember when I was a child I would watch films like The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians and be amazed! Now, Disney has gone downhill and its films seem to be getting worse and worse as time goes by. Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland does not compare to the original animation. If you ask me, many kids websites such as Disney's should not be listed in the Top category on http://www.DozenKids.com. Is it time for us to realize that Disney and kids TV is not really what it used to be and in fact it now scraping the barrel of entertainment?

1592848564 (nice "name") makes a good point -- why not just be a total racist than simply enjoy modern Disney films for what they are...!!

at some point in time, hitler and walt met up,
hitler superpowered walt with nazi powers.
and told him
"with great power, comes great responsibility. and yours is to create as many racist cartoons as possible. now go! go my prodigy!"
There you go,
that's what happened.
It's my story, and i'm sticking to it. - 4 years ago

People try to make any thing racist. Things are only racist because you think they are. If I said a person had brown, black, white, or red skin you probably would consider that racist. It is the human race, not the black race or the white race, but the human race. Considering a human with a different color/shade/tone of skin as a different race sounds racist.
I like Aladdin and old Disney movies. There is new Disney movies I like, but people say the older ones are better.
(I am not old. I was born in 1992.)

does no one else know that Walt Disney was a Nazi sympathizer? so why would it not be that strange that his views and perceptions of other cultures made their way into his cartoons.

I'd like to see them do Warner Bros. next. Anyone ever see the old Bugs Bunny fighting the Japanese WWII cartoons? You'd swear they were made by John McCain.

Great article. I remember all-too-well what it felt like sitting in theaters as a child and feeling queasy at Walt's depictions of ethnicity. Not much magical about this kingdom for those of us kids who were made to feel ridiculed by stereotypes exploited for the purpose of entertainment.

"Let me see. A genuine African native," Mickey murmured. "Perhaps I should start showing him off."
hahaha YES.
Nothing like subliminal racist messages.
Although yes,
the sebastian did seem a little unnecessary.
Or at least that's how it seemed.
But god,
gotta love disney for thinking of this stuff. - 4 years ago
