Thankfully, the think tank at Warner Brothers has chosen not to alter the final cut of the new Batman film, including one scene that features the late Heath Ledger pretending to be dead inside a body bag.

Ledger, who was found dead in late-January in his New York apartment, plays The Joker in the movie, labelled The Dark Knight.

His performance is said to be amazing, yet many had worried certain scenes in the film might upset his more sensitive fans.

You would imagine Ledger himself would not have wanted anything in his portrayal to have been changed or omitted.

Amen ... and RIP, Heath.

    • American and citizen of the world in general for this matter, need to get over it! We have experienced a lot in the last decade and have been desensitized to the max...Stop trying to protect people from 'offensive' media! the reality crap on TV is worse than any scripted professionally tasteful( or gruesome) death scene!!!

I say 'NO MORE' for the sake of preserving free speech and plead with all peoples to be realistic and not edit movies to make them PC!!!

      children beware...

    • Heath was a fantastic actor and Warner Bros. does well to not alter the movie; that would be a disrespectful gesture. I'm already a huge Batman fan, but this one will mean a bit more to me since Heath passed away. Whether or not he were still with us now, I'm sure I would enjoy his performance either way.

    • I really liked the way he was as an actor. He was the best so far and he had guts in brokeback mountain. Why is this important? Just that the fact that he was a regular humanbeing with real problems and fellings.

    • If you are still grieving after such a long time over a person who you never met, then you are provably too... fanatical.

    • And Coloniel_Zombie - you bring up a very good point. But I personally am thankful we have our popular culture. Granted it is completely unimportant relative to the things we should be caring about, I would hate to live every day of my life depressing over the lost lives of a war we shouldn't have been in in the first place.

I guess in this case I value my own ignorance. Even if it's only for a couple hours at a movie theater.

    • Blazesboy - They had an audience sneak preview the film and the majority of the audience felt the scene should have been removed from the movie.

So, if that were a representative sample of the people who will see the movie, as far as a review goes, it might have done them better to remove it.

However, your point still sticks because they will most likely get way more publicity with this scene IN the movie, good review or not.

    • It was a good call that they didn't change anything.

Removing scenes from the film would have been like cutting peices from a dead artist's painting.

    • See, this is how a movie publicity department does its work. They sprinkle tidbits and half-truths and gossip out into the "blogosphere" to see what kind of reaction it kicks up. I bet very, very few people have actually seen any part of this film and if the studio wanted to change the ending, they would do it and the public would be none the wiser.

    • I'm glad they won't be changing it. I want to see the film with the director, writers and actors' ideas influencing the action not Ledger's tragic death.
Being honest, there's a slight ghoulish appeal to this film now.

    • It would have been insensitive to have changed his scenes.

This has faint echoes to the LOTR series where there was brief discussion about the 2nd movie title - The Two Towers due to 911. Thank God reason prevailed there as it seems to have in this case.

    • What other choices did Warner's have?
Re-shoot the film with another actor?
Shelve the next Blockbuster of a huge franchise?
They'll do the fiancially smart thing by releasing the film as is.
This isn't like removing scenes involving the Twin Towers shot prior to "9/11".
A big part of why folks went to see "The Crow" had to do with what they already knew about one of it's stars. "Batman" and Heath Ledger fans will be in line with the morbidly curious for this one, as well.
Don't think, for even a second, that Warner's doesn't know this.

    • i don't think you are doing any favor to Heath by altering his work

isn't it like a tribute to him to show his (as i heard) better work?

    • Thanks a lot Yahoo, they gave away an important part of movie when they said he's pretending to be dead.
It's great that they didn't change the movie.

    • It's very rare that a movie comes out when one of its main actors/actresses sadly won't be there for the debut. And for that, even MORE people are going to see this movie.

I know it's sad to think that Warner Brothers is going to benefit from the loss of Mr. Ledger's life, but it's true - and the body bag scene could possibly go down as one of the most memorable scenes from a movie.

    • People should stop acting like Heath Ledger was some dignitary who passing is tragic. He was just a foolish movie star taking a killer pill cocktail and it caught up to him.

    • Thank God for common sense. Regardless of an artist being dead, his final works no matter how sensitive should NEVER be tampered with.

    • So true Ben!

I miss Heath, he was just such an amazing talent, I for one will def. be looking forward to seeing his performance in the new Batman, which I heard is incredible! What a role to go out on I guess.

    • His more sensitive fans should have passed their grievance period by now. It's been several months and the man is still dead. He's not coming back.

I have no doubt that his performance in the Dark Knight is amazing, and I can totally see how it could have a weird "back from the dead" stigma around it. Thanks to Warner Bros for editing the way you were going to edit despite Ledger's death.
