The End of America

Marilynn_Murray
We are excited to announce the web release of "The End of America" - a feature-length documentary based on Naomi Wolf's bestselling book of the same name - this coming Tuesday, October 21. Our own Michael Ratner and Maria LaHood as well as our client Maher Arar are featured, and CCR is privileged to partner in the online premiere of this powerful and provocative film.

Naomi Wolf, a long-time supporter and ally of CCR, set out on a national tour over the past year to discuss the evolution of America from a functional democracy into a closed, fear-driven society with a terrifying absence of due process. She lays out what she calls the 10 steps necessary to end a democracy and shows us just how close we are to completing them:

Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy.
Create secret prisons where torture takes place.
Develop a thug caste or paramilitary force not answerable to citizens.
Set up an internal surveillance system.
Harass citizens' groups.
Engage in arbitrary detention and release.
Target key individuals.
Control the press.
Treat all political dissents as traitors.
Suspend the rule of law.

In her film, Naomi Wolf makes a plea for Americans to stand up and fight for our most cherished rights. One thing you can do is check out our new 100 Days Campaign (with this link) and stay tuned for ways to get involved in telling the next administration what they must to do to restore, protect and expand our constitutional rights.

You can also screen THE END OF AMERICA for your friends and neighbors one of two ways - you have a unique opportunity to get a copy of the film now before it hits stores in early 2009. Host a free public screening of the film before November 4, 2008 and they'll provide you with a free DVD. Show it at school, work or place of worship; take it to your local coffee shop or bar; urge organizations you're a member of to host a free screening. They'll send you posters and postcards to promote your event. For more information contact myamerica@katahdinproductions.com. You can also support the project by purchasing a special Election Edition DVD, available to Center for Constitutional Rights members through this indiepix films on-line store link.

    • Dear Americans,

I would like to propose a "NATIONAL STRIKE DAY" for every American that is able. I have heard France has been doing this with great success. Please let us get everyone engaged here and anywhere we can post this message or one of your own.

The Questions I would ask here are as follows: What day should it be and when and how often? Once a month to start or? I believe this would really give the people back their power in this country. It is time to take action! If we do not take some action now as our Declaration of Independence says we have the right and obligation to, it looks like our country will fall.

People are losing their homes by the millions, and jobs of course with it, and our government with the media's help are trying to hide it from us. They are going to let us just fall, we have to save ourselves, to many good people's lives are being ruined.

This is the responsibility of a free people. Be sure the world bankers have a diabolical plan for us and unless we truly want to be slaves, we have to do something. I am open to other ideas, or maybe someone is already doing this (I heard something). I plead with each American here on Twitter to get involved and support this idea, and everywhere else we can get this message out.

This will be a peaceful way to get our government's attention, while we take back our country. Trust me if George Washington and the many honorable men and women who fought our war of Independence were here today, they would have already taken action years ago, many years ago, and I doubt it would be very peaceful.

Thus, no one works until our demands are met. Start with say five or ten demands. So my idea, proposal is that Americans just go to the street, your city hall, or what is ever appropriate in your state. No one works until our demands are met. But absolutely No violence, no vandalism, no matter what please. That will destroy our honest political cause afforded us by our constitution. In fact, we should make, in my opinion that it is a very somber and quite sit in, almost complete silence until our demands are met, so they cannot try and intimidate people or arrest them unlawfully as they have been doing. I believe this is very important point, no conflict what so ever, just freeze everything. We are all allowed to stay home from work. We need to get employers involved obviously.

My list of demands start as follows:

1.) No more bail outs, but instead money is to be given directly to the American people.
I heard some experts are saying that this is the only real cure, some 450,000.00 to each American is the answer to our financial crisis. http://www.dvorak.org/blog/?=26321

      2.) Abolish the IRS, period!

3.) Reinstate our fourth Amendment rights.

      4.)

      5.)

I hope others will give their suggestions. I would recommend we elect a board and thus work to organize our first AMERICAN NATIONAL STRIKE DAY, or if someone has already started this, please if anyone is aware of this let me know.

    • It gives me hope that these people are fighting to make America and the constitution whole again. I'm ashamed to what has been done, and is being done in our name.

    • Bad outcomes are the result of poor decisions and choices. Psychonalyst J. Frank wrote a book about our key "decision maker" W. Bush in 2004 book "Bush on the Couch" . He points how George W. Bush displays signs of poor mental health which makes him ill-suited to rule the most powerful nation on earth. Frank provides evidence that Bush suffers from megalomania, is probably incapable of true compassion and shows signs of sadism going back to childhood, is an untreated alcoholic, is in constant danger of a relapse. Bush manifests the symptoms of a dry drunk, principally irritability, judgmentalism and a rigid, inflexible world view. Frank also analyses, amongst other things, Bush’s tendency to mix up his metaphors and concludes Bush has substantial problems with abstract, flexible thinking.

    • No monte, you are wrong. It's not capitalism that's the problem. It's the rampant de-regulation and disregard for law which has become the rule. That's what's wrong. The far-right always points the finger first while in full knowledge that they are the worst offenders. The filthy-rich and their criminal cohorts in power have used and abused the Constitution and now it's time to kick the bums out. The People have suffered at the hands of a small neo-con clan and multi-national corporations. Now The People are standing up. Personally, I hope they prosecute the war criminals to the fullest extent of the law.

    • Apparently Obama plans to repeal some of those points to bring America back from the brink of facism by Bringing Americans Back into their Government

Hold 21st Century Fireside Chats: Obama will bring democracy and policy directly to the people by requiring his Cabinet officials to have periodic national broadband townhall meetings to discuss issues before their agencies.

Make White House Communications Public: Obama will amend executive orders to ensure that communications about regulatory policymaking between persons outside government and all White House staff are disclosed to the public.

Conduct Regulatory Agency Business in Public: Obama will require his appointees who lead the executive branch departments and rulemaking agencies to conduct the significant business of the agency in public, so that any citizen can see in person or watch on the Internet these debates.

Release Presidential Records: Obama and Biden will nullify the Bush attempts to make the timely release of presidential records more difficult.

    • Time to turn the page on the old America, where Republicans instill anger and fear. Naomi Wolf and the rest of America can relax and get back to life if Barack Obama wins this important election.

I dont fear life with Barack Obama leading us to a "better day". It will be hard work to recover from George W., but I know "we are better than this". With Leadership instead of "decidership", Im sure we will be better than this in the future.

You may have to move back to Russia? I dont know where you can go? Look around and see which country has the dictator you like best and move along!

I want my country back! If you dont respect our freedom and Constitution this may not be the country where you want to live in the future. Move along!

    • They forgot the part where you make capitlism look like the problem so that you can introduce socialism which puts everyone under the thumb of those in power giving them the power to say who can have money and who cannot.
This is of course what is happening with our election right now.
They have americans sufficiently dumbed down so they will go and vote away their freedom just so they can have "change"
I dont want change like that, i am happy with the system that has built this country into the strongest in the world.

Oh poor Stranger2315, your blood is boiling because 5 people spewing that America is bad. Too bad! Suck it up! Many of us have had our blood boiling for the past 8 years.

The Supreme Court stepped in, in 2000 it made my blood boil. Did you care? No! Well if Barack Obama wins, I hope you can "get over it", like many of us have had to do for the past 8 years. At least when your blood is boiling, it wont hurt the rest of us.

For the past 8 years my blood has boiled! My country started a war of aggression against a country, which had nothing to do with 9/11. My blood boiled. Did ya care? No. My country abused prisoners. My blood boiled. Did ya care? No. My country broke the law and eavesdropped on Americans, ignoring a law put in place to stop them from doing it without oversight. Did ya care? No. So many things have made my blood boil that it would take too long to state them all. Did ya care? No.

Do I care that your blood is boiling? NO! Suck it up! Move along! Get over it! IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE! We arent dumbed down, we are better than what has gone on for the past 8 years. Unless the will of the people is stolen again, we will be better than this in the future!

      reply to connie and jc91
first of all connie the supreme court didn't step in, it merely told the florida supreme court that it couldn't step in - i actually read the opinions, you should quit accepting everything you hear, it is propaganda.
To you jc91. don't believe everything you hear from people running for office-- the truth is it was actually regulation not deregulation that caused lenders to make bad loans ---namely the community development act introduced by Carter which was designed to give everyone the chance to own a home whether they could afford it or not and also to make dems appear compasionate and gain voters.
And you blame this on republicans because obama and biden said so, wise up!

    • montesooma:

Carter created the CRA and Cliton expanded it. Bush allowed the subprime packages to be sold and artificially lower the interest rate which created malinvestment. Both parties are to blame; their policies really aren't that different. They both like central control of the economy because it can be used as a political tool (grant subsides to lobbyist, protect big business through courts and regulation, eliminate competition) thus the ruling class gets richer and everyone else gets poorer. As long as there is government everyone will attempt to use it for themselves and someone will always lose (after all we all pay taxes). As long as there is massive government, there will be massive corruption. If we don't return to the America that was envisioned in its foundation then there will never be peace, liberty or, prosperity.

But do not give in. There are answers. Learn what you can and spread the word. Tell everyone you know. http://mises.org/
