A movie based on the best-selling memoir by a friend of Anne Frank is being developed by an indie studio.
"My Friend Anne Frank" is an adaptation of the book by Jacqueline van Maarsen, who was described as Frank's best friend Jopie in "The Diary of Anne Frank."
The author went to school with Frank and spoke with her father Otto after World War II. An English translation of van Maarsen's Dutch memoirs, "My Name Is Anne, She Said, Anne Frank," was published by Arcadia Books last year.
The film's plot will follow the young friends' separate internments in concentration camps. Alberto Negrin is attached to direct for Nu Image/Millennium Films. Negrin knows the terrain well. He shot the Italian biopic "Perlasca," based on the man who posed as a Spanish official to save Hungarian Jews from the Nazis.
