Israeli war animation movie "Waltz With Bashir," about the 1982 massacre of Palestinians in Beirut, is one of five movies to be nominated for a foreign language BAFTA award, Britain's equivalent of the Oscars.
Director Ari Folman was a soldier in the Israeli army when it invaded Lebanon that year. The army allowed Lebanese Christian militiamen into Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, who then went on a killing spree.

i heard the interview with Ari Folman on NPR and was moved by one thing he said. he pointed out one particular difference between US (and UK) soldiers with IDF. when US/UK soldiers are done fighting, they travel hours away back to their homes far from the trauma and time to switch off. when IDF is done fighting, they travel 20 minutes from the carnage back home to the discos and pubs. 20 minutes.
