Forget the lists of movies that were great in 2008 ... it's time to look to the future. This list features 25 movies coming out in the next year that look promising, from crime to sci-fi to animation and everything in between. Some highlights:
Talent: this film was released a year ago internationally, but is just hitting US screens this year. A Bourne movie without the Bourne.
Inglorious Bastards: Quentin Tarantino's Nazi flick featuring Brad Pitt, slated for an August release.
Where the Wild Things Are: You loved the Maurice Sendak classic. This could either ruin your childhood, or let you relive it.
Fantastic Mr. Fox: This is a personal dream come true for me. Wes Anderson and a bunch of his regulars bring Roald Dahl's story to life.

    • I'm excited for where the wild things are... as long as those bastards don't stray too far from the book. I hate it when they make a movie of a great book then butcher it

    • I used to love (still do) Where the Wild Things Are!!! I really hope the "Where the Wild Things Are" movie doesn't destroy the story like the "Polar Express" movie did.

    • I feel like I'm so out of the loop when it comes to upcoming movies. Just yesterday, or maybe the day before, I found out that there was going to be a "Friday the 13th" remake.

Anyway, the only movies I'm really looking forward to are "Taken" and "The Watchmen". I'm probably going to try to see the next X-Men movie and the Sherlock Holmes film, since I've recently found out that I'm in love with Robert Downey, Jr.

    • I'm interested in seeing Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist - Michael Cera in a queercore band in an indie-rom-com.

I absolutely cannot BELIEVE they are remaking The Birds. Disgraceful! Why would you even TRY and remake Hitchcock!!???? When the originals are so perfect!??? WHY!???
And a sequel to Donnie Darko.... you must be joking!!??

I'm curious about the Dorian Gray film

Plus i know there'll be some great indie films we ain't even heard of yet.

I was never a "Treckie" but I am a fan. I am just old enough to have been an enthusiastic fan of the Next Generation and to have seen Generations in theatres. I sat down and watched it with family and this was coming in the mid nineties when things like the mars rover and hubble were coming online and space was at the fore of many discussions again. I am glad that I will now experience Kirk and Scotty on the silver screen. As Gene Rodenberry said, "Tommorows things to Tommorows Children."

    • There certainly are some interesting looking flicks coming out this year. Some in this list a lot more than others. I for one can't to see the latest from auteurs like Scorsese and Tarantino, as well as Jonze and Anderson.

    • Wes Anderson is doing Fantastic Mr Fox?! That sounds great, looking forward to that. Watchmen has got to be a big highlight of this year too.

    • Wow! Sequels, remakes and adaptations! 2009 looks to be just as crappy a film year as 2008. Barely any original movies on the horizon.
Someone please recommend me a GOOD movie.

Slumdog? I'm sure I won't like it. Danny Boyle is an okay director,... but he makes some BAD films. And the whole commercialization with Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is cinematically gross. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I'm just too hard to please.
