Reports claim that a casting notice has been sent out by Paramount producers, which is requesting an actor who is "physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant and wild".
So who's names have been churned around in the rumour mill so far? Well Trainspotting and Grey's Anatomy star Kevin McKidd, and wait for it, WWE wrestler Triple H have both had a mention on the t'internet, in regards to playing Donald Blake, the semi-disabled doctor who turns into the hammer loving viking.
Hmm, not one of those actors mentioned seems to fit the 'casting notice'... who do you think should play Thor?

it HAS to be Philip Seymour Hoffman á la Boogie Nights. This is not a joke. It's an imperative. I guess if they need more muscle they could go with Mark Wahlberg. He can talk to animals, after all...

I couldn't see Gerard Butler in the role, even though he defines hawt. Certainly Kevin McKidd (a close second to Butler) could work, but I think that he'd might be a better Baldr (if they're going by the actualy mythology, I haven't read the comic?).
Who would play Loki, that's my question... - 2 years ago

Ok so marvel decides to invest in a new marvel universe (ultimate) and drops most of the magical/psychedelic bullshit that made the thing so confusing yet at the same time they decide to make a movie about a Norse god....

Word is this is all building up to bringing the Avengers to the big screen (Cap. America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor etc.)... including 'Ant Man' - who I'd previously never heard of, and doesn't sound quite the same stature as his compatriots.
And so on...

Rats! Why couldn't they make this movie in the 80's when I was physically powerful, very handsome, occasionally egotistical, petulant and wild?

I agree, in fact I have for a while thought that he should fit the role, although it was a tie for him to be Thor or Captain America.
Imagine Pitt as a wise cracking powerful god, or the all American superhero, I like them both but I'd rather see Matt Damon play cap.

Daniel Craig was also reportedly offered the role, but turned it down. Something I'm quite glad about as I don't think Bond could really be Thor as well.
But, Kenneth Branagh was reported a few months ago to have been approached to direct the movie. Check the link to see who other Current.com users think should direct it: http://tinyurl.com/daux6h
