Iran attacks Hollywood over movie insults

Image
nazbags
Iran is requesting an apology from Hollywood for "insults and accusations against the Iranian nation." 1991's "Not Without My Daughter", "The Wrestler" and "300" were named as examples of movies that portray Iran or Iranian in a negative light.

    • Id apologize. Apologies are free and easy. You can even lie if necessary. I really don't know what to think about Iran. The people of the entire world are kept in a total fucking cloak of darkness where all we know is what's covered in the media. Any media that's taken seriously (News, TV Shows, Real Internet Locations) are heavily controlled.

I wouldn't say were kept in the dark intentionally. But it certainly does benefit each country in it's own way.

I'm fascinated by Iran culture period/full-stop; and I've nothing against the Iranian people who tend toward being quite decent and friendly--especially when relatively speaking. Iranians tend to have a very high standard of education per capita, especially when compared to Greater Arabia which is quite poor. (I know Iran is Persia but I'm lumping it in). It and Egypt rival one another I believe. Iraq came in fairly close being the two as far as an educated, stable populace until we went and f***ed it up; let's hope it's temporary, not merely for our sake, not even solely for theirs, but for one of the most ancient, yet still functioning civilizations not to vanish from the Earth and/or become unstable.

      Anyway...

As a rule well educated people are seldom prone to violence, that is, at the very least, that sort of silly, embarrassing thing we saw in Denmark. I believe those types of Muslims are to the Arab as Skinheads and other neo-whatevers are to the west; an exceptionally embarrassing but vocal-minority that we hope all of us wont be judged by.

    • Iran is pulling the same s*it that those Muslims pulled when a Danish publication printed something about Muhammad and it wasn't even meant seriously, or certainly not meant to be an offense to Islam. And this is like every other similar incident in the world. These are movies, they are entertainment.

If Muslim nations feel the smallest slight be it journalists or whomever from westerners they chop off their heads and then order their people to parade around and make a display about it. "We chopped off your citizens' heads, lol!"

We have something --or at least have the ideals-- of freedom of expression, and freedom of the press. Iran can go ahead and do things Iran's way and I wont judge them; but we certainly aren't going to do things Iran's way, we aren't Iran. Yes we've attempted to impose ourselves on other countries in our history with varying degrees of success, and it is no more right when we do it.

Iran is seeing if they can try it on with Hollywood --probably testing Obama also-- as even if they wanted to, Muslims in the States couldn't pull off a Denmark here due to the size of our police force; in addition to the national guard and the military. It also wouldn't work as Americans are quite aggressive when push comes to shove..

Also as the States doesn't play games, it's part of our history. Screw around and go too far -cross the line- on US territory and you're getting 'crowd dispersed' one way or the other. We have a low tolerance for people behave like rioting medieval peasants.

      Shut up Iran...

Unfortunate choice of a plastic surgeon. I read on the internet that he is having the mistakes repaired now that he can better afford it. I have already seen an improvement from a couple of years ago. He needs to get rid of the lip sausage.

    • Iran shouldn't blame Hollywood or any other entity for its negative image in the world. When the mullahs stop approving the stoning deaths of little girls who have been gang-raped;when the forced marriages of 8-year-old babies to men old enough to be their grandfathers is banned; when a woman's testimony holds the same weight as a man's in matters of law; when domestic abuse and marital rape is not accepted as a male right in a marriage; when female genital mutilation (the scraping off of outer genitalia and the suturing closed of the vagina) is not considered necessary in order to prove that a girl is a virgin on her wedding day; when dowry deaths are no longer ignored; when widowed women are allowed to retain the custody of their own children, who are presently handed over to the next-of-kin males in the deceased husband's family; when women relatives of men who are political fugitives are not routinely jailed and tortured in their place...

This only scratches the surface of the civil rights horrors that most civilized world citizens abhor. Iran makes enough of its own bad publicity. They don't need Hollywood to do it for them.

    • I'm a Persian/Iranian American and i think that the existing regime is a sick joke and a disgrace. This fascist regime hates creativity, human rights and democracy. The best way that I can describe it is like George Bushes administration on steroids.

Lets not forget that the Persians have the first historical recordings of democracy and were the first recognise human rights under Cyrus the great where a replica of the Cyrus Cylinder resides at UN headquarters in New York.

I think before people start generalising an entire race they need to understand that the true Iranian people do not have a voice or a choice. The existing regime tortures and kills anyone in their opposition to fulfill their right wing agenda and they refuse to acknowledge their countries past beyond 800 years,

Screw what Mohammad Ahmadinejad and his bullshit government has to say in regards to Hollywood, Once they acknowledge individual freedoms they can be critics.

    • They totally missed the point on The Wrestler. The wrestling culture was portrayed as racist intentionally, as superficial and nationalistic and absurdly theatrical. It was a reflection of the reality of the industry and its fans (particularly in the eighties), not a political statement.

    • Freedom of speech, they can go to hell.

I guess they don't understand that Hollywood films aren't produced or approved by the state like their bullshit is. People can make whatever they want.

I didn't all of the films, but the only "offensive" film on there was probably 300, which arguably has nothing to do with modern day Iran as they shun their non-Islamic history.

    • Check out the aftermath of the release of the book the Satanic Verses. They not only burn books they murder the writers, publishers, and all contributors. Word of warning to Iran .. if you try and mess with Hollywood we're going to redefine fatwa for you. Imagine the American backlash if they messed with one of our beloved hollywood stars.

    • Funny how our responses drifted from being right-on-the-money, freedom loving and speaking to apologetic and blaming the Jews (again!!!). Hahaha. While it is true that there are a lot of talented Jews in Hollyweard, it is also true that there are a lot of non-Jews - just as talented and influential there as well. But to turn even this absurd Iranian claim into Jews' fault - that is beyond anecdotal!!! Iran and the Arab world have done enough to be hated, disliked, etc. In fact, in the early stages of their history, they have in fact contributed a great deal to this world. But the last few centuries have bypassed them - and all we see coming from there is hate, anger and extremism. This is not to say that there are no bright minds there - or that those people are all rotten - but their actions as of the last 100 years speak louder than words. So I say - f them if they can't take a joke!!! They outlaw pizza, they outlaw our music and film, they teach hatred, they want us to convert or die - F them!!!

But, I wouldn't be surprised if the leftie Hollyweard, with its ever-present desire for utopian socialism and world harmony does in fact succumb to this ridiculous demand. What a crazy world we live in!!!

    • So who exactly is supposed to represent "Hollywood" in an apology? I'm envisioning a "we are the world" type all-star cast with a musical accompaniment singing that they're sorry.

    • I can't believe people here are defending a weak, untalented, stereotyping and at times, racist industry over an entire country of people who make up one of the oldest cultures on Earth. Instead of telling Iran to get with the program, why don't we try to understand Iran?

    • Some of you people are so wrapped in your arrogance and racism that will never realize that this campaign of demonizing Iran has been methodically planed and executed by AIPAC for decades.
True that it might sound ridicules in Iran's part to be demanding apology for couple of stupid movies like these, but one MUST realize this is not just a coincidence. Hatemongers and warmongers purposefully been demonizing Iranians. Same thing they did for African American, Native American, Arabs, etc etc etc.
So much hate that are being spewed in cites like these from people who have no other tallent but demonstrating their arrogance and hate toward a nation who has done nothing to US.

I don't hate Iranians and I would never support war with Iran. However, I do see them force women to wear burka's, kill people who speak out against their religion and are notorious for beating, raping, and "honor killing" women in their country.

This "campaign" that you speak of is really us being appalled by their behavior, and that is just what we can see, because they jail journalists and don't allow foreign journalists into their country.

The people over there act so irrationally with their power, and then whine like children when we poke fun at them for acting like idiots.

I guess the long and the short of the request for an apology is: What the fuck are they going to do if we don't?

    • This reveals the mentality of the enemy; that they let their emotions rule them. You and I both know what being emotional does when making decisions. Like most world leaders they have the mentality and decision making skills of six year old children.

Would you stop with the anti-semitism? It's really grating. How could you possibly know that jews "conspire together"? If that were true, you'd think they'd be a lot more effective in whatever nefarious scheme they're supposedly plotting.

You act as if because they're jewish they're all rigid ideologues. The truth is, people are largely in Hollywood to profit. If an honest film on the Israeli/Palestine conflict was marketable, they wouldn't hesitate to produce it.

I mean, have you ever seen a Hollywood film in FAVOR of Israeli policy?

    • A 'top aide' said this to a visiting Hollywood delegation. It was probably a joke lost in translation. Who rules these countries top aides and film producers, who cares what these people think.

This is playground politics, it really shouldnt bother anyone but a Hollywood delegation with an inflated ego.

Haven't seen the films personally so couldn't possibly comment.

    • The guy has a point.

I can't think of any Hollywood movie that portrays Arabs in a good light.
America has a warped perception of Iran and Hollywood is partly to blame.

We've been seriously screwing over the middle east since the 50's, yet the media would have you believe that America is the victim, Hollywood is a reflection of that. Iran isn't completely innocent, but they are definitely the victims in the conflict.

Ask yourself why it was so important in the 80's to have an African-American hero in movies. It was to help change America's racist and warped perception of blacks. The same thing needs to happen with Arabs.

    • this is completely and utterly ridiculous. Never mind the fact that these films are largely fictional, what a generalisation this is! Think of all the nations that could complain about Hollywood films and who don't. Russia, for one.

Russia ain't complaining because America or anyone else isn't a real threat at the moment. However Iran is currently under attack and is extremely vulnerable to the US and films which affect the thinking of a nation that is currently holding back from joining Israel in the complete and utter destruction of the Iranian people is an obvious concern. Look at the opinions expressed on this page for example, many people couldn't care less if US did go to war with Iran, if you only experience a place through what you see on TV your going to get a distorted view fo reality.

"Not Without My Daughter" was not a work of fiction. It was written by Betty Mamoudy who was played by Sally Field in the movie. Nothing was changed in the making of the movie.

While certainly an interesting read, that's not to say there isn't a certain level of over-analysis in his depictions of several of the films, coming from a rather biased source, but he does raise some good points.

Not Without My Daughter is an actual fact of what some Arabs who are married to American (White) women do.

i know i have friends who have done that!!

as far as 300...who the fuck cares. i wasnt even paying attention to the storyline. that just shows that it was a total sausage fest who went to see it. otherwise i doubt if you would hear the ladies complaining.

Secondly, the film from 1991 with Sally Fields? That was a movie that brought to light the problems in Iran.

I cant wait to see how Hollywood responds.
