Academy Award® winning screenwriter, Dustin Lance Black is going to be spending some time with us here at Current and we'd love for you to participate in the conversation by submitting questions here on Current.com.

You can ask about winning the Academy Award® for "Milk," writing the screenplay movie, his life, his story, what he has upcoming, etc. Please just ask one question at a time though, and webcam questions work the best so he can see your pretty/handsome face.

Feel free to message me with any questions,
Thanks guys!

    • Other than Harvey Milk's actual apartment he once lived in that was said to be used in the film, were there any other actual items or memorabilia owned by Harvey Milk himself, that was also used in the film?

    • If you could choose any gay themed novel or book that you've read from any author to be made into a film, or to direct or produce it yourself, which book/novel would you choose and why?

    • I would like to know how inspired you were by Barack Obama winning the presidency, and what more you think we can do to argue the crescendoing push for gay civil rights is part of the larger and longer fight for justice for all minorities.

Harvey Milk built relationships with all sorts of ethic and economic minorities; have we lost some of his common touch?

    • I've just returned from watching Milk at the cinema. Firstly, I'd like to say congratulations on a brilliant film and, of course, your deserved Oscar win. It was a fantastic and inspiring story that really needed to be told. As a hetrosexual, northern English lass I am embarrassed, although not surprised, that I was unfamiliar with the work of Harvey Milk and his movement. Thank you for bringing his story back into the public eye.

As an aspiring script writer myself, I was wondering if you had any tips on how to get started on a script. Do you sit at home and think 'oh I know I must write about that?', do producers approach you with an idea? After that conception of an idea, where do you go then?

      Thanks
      Sarah

    • First off congratulations on the Oscar, I am a big fan of your work. That said, I was wondering if you plan on directing any projects in the near future?

    • Firstly, I would just like to say how beautiful and encouraging your Oscar acceptance speech was. It was fantastic to hear an older member of the gay community address my peers in a positive way, and to give young gay people hope for the future.
My question is, did you always want to be a screenwriter, and do you have advice for aspiring writers?

    • With the success of "Milk", what other screenplays have you written that are coming out in theaters in 2009?
