Sunrise: 'If the Cowboy Bebop script is terrible, the live-action film won't be approved'

Part of why it's taken so long for this project to get off the ground is because of contract negotiations between Sunrise and 20th Century Fox, where Sunrise can assert a high level of quality control. At the panel they said, "If the script is terrible, the live-action film adaptation will not be approved."
So they won't have complete control over the film, but hopefully this way a lot of the kinks can be worked out, and avoid turning this into something on the level of Dragon Ball Evolution or Johnny Mnemonic. I expect it'll be a long time before this film actually gets into the shooting phase, because whenever there's a point of contention in the script, things will need to be translated back and forth between English and Japanese, slowing things down significantly.
Nonetheless, I'll remain hopeful about this. I believe in the magic of Hollywood.
---
I'm so grateful for Sunrise stepping in and having a voice. If they (and Yoko Kanno) are involved, I have hope for this yet.

plz let the script suck.
then maybe, someone way better will have a chance at making this an awesome movie. A movie that will be able to be in the leagues of movies like the X-Men trilogy, Spider Man etc.
Not somewhere in the leagues with Daredevil, Dragonball Evolution, or Catwoman or whatever... - 3 years ago

Good i hope the script gets shot down and is never looked at again. Well hell ill compromise so long as keanu reeves isnt Spike the movie has a slight chance at being possibly watchable maybe.

At the very least their trying to make it good rather than just taking a crap in a film case and letting the title do the rest.
P.S. is yoko kano any where near this move yet? because if not that sucks. - 3 years ago

I don't know, depends on how well he can act out that wise tough guy style. He has the bulk, but the lower half of the face...meh. And as for comments saying the cast should be Asian, it's based in a time far in the future, they didn't look Asian in the show, and they weren't from Japan or Asia in general, as far as I remember, though Fey could have been.

I'm sorry i'm boycotting this movie on three principles. 1) the actor for spike is not Japanese 2) It's fucking keanu reeves playing spike, who's next ron pearlman for jet? and 3) there is far to many remakes and adaptations going on and some things *cough* watchmen *cough* cannot be remade without giving full and proper adoration to the original material. you cannot condense the drama, emotion, and development of spike spiegel into a 2 hour movie

From what I understand a good deal of the original staff will be working on the live-action film. And that picture...creepy.

""If the script is terrible, the live-action film adaptation will not be approved." Good for them! There could indeed be hope yet!
