I loved Clifton in Capote. I didn't know more of him before but after that movie, he really drew me in. I had to know who he was! Thanks for profiling him in this piece.

Crime is the inevitable result of prolonged scarcity. The longer we are crippled by prohibition of Cannabis agriculture for food and fuel, the worse the violence will become. Hemp is the most nutritious food potentially available to the greatest number of people. The so-called "drug war" against 'marijuana' is counter-productive, and enriches a vicious black market. At the same time because industrial hemp is also banned, pot prohibition has resulted in global food insecurity and epidemic malnutrition.
It's time for "essential civilian demand" under the protection of the First Amendment. Cultural relationships between agriculture and religion predate written history. The freedom to farm "every herb bearing seed" is the first test of religious freedom.
For the violence to end, the inconvenient solution is Cannabis freedom in 2009.

I hate it when i see the anti drug ads. If this country really wanted to wage a true "War on drugs", it would inclued battles on Heroine, Crack Cocaine and Crystal Meth. All things that have to be manufactured. No one has ever died from a Marijuana overdose.
By the By i am not a pot smoker but i am a child of a drug addict. There is so much suffering.

My heart goes out to you, and the rest of the world for the suffering. It is so unnecessary and avoidable. All that's needed is for someone like Clifton Collins Jr. to say, HEY AMERICA! WHAT ABOUT OUR FREEDOM TO FARM HEMP, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WORLD IS DOING?
Obama needs to wake up to the "Essential strategic resource" that Cannabis is or he'll wind up like the rest of the drug war dinosaurs, like Asa Hutchinson and John Walters, spouting misinformation and parading ignorance while ignoring food insecurity and malnutrition.
As for hard drug use, marijuana is considered a wall between most people and hard drugs, because pot is enough of a high for most people who choose to alter their consciousness - for what ever reason. Whether for pain relief, religious experience, Alzheimer's prevention and other health benefits, stress reduction, as a sleeping aid, as a driving aid, as a tool for inspiration, as a recreational herb, as a sex aid, or as a foot bath...it's all about personal choice and individual responsibility.
The fact is that the freedom to farm "every herb bearing seed "is the first test of religious freedom.
