The chinese Schindler

gbarbati
This is an untold story. John Rabe was german as Oskar Schindler, the enterpreneur who managed to save over a thousend Jewish people from Nazis and whose life inspired the famous Spielberg's movie "Schindler List". Rabe made it years before, when he was a business man in Nanking, China. When the Japanese army invaded China in 1937, Rabe and a handful of foreigners remained in then chinese capital, Nanking, and managed to save up to 300.000 people from what is still remembered as Nanking Massacre. I would like to share with you this feature I shooted in Nanjing, where I met survivors and other people who helped me tracking back the story of this ordinary citizen turned hero. This 5 minutes documentary includes clips from the coming sino - german produced movie "John Rabe".

    • did any country's citizens go through more hell in the 20th century than the chinese? i am not a historian but from the chinese films i have seen they've got to be near the top. great filmmaking! i could have watched that for another hour and a half. i do wish you would have used less footage from the movie based on the same thing and more of your own personal footage. but whatever, it was great to learn that this man even existed. keep up the good work.
