Transcendent Man

Pericles_Lewnes
Some hail him as a modern-day Nostradamus, others dismiss him as a crackpot. Futurist and famed inventor Ray Kurzweil is the preeminent theorist on the pending fusion of humans and super-intelligent machines as the next phase of evolution, a "singularity" he predicts will occur within 30 years. This fascinating (and at times terrifying) doc explores the personal ideals behind his controversial ideas. Screening at the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival. • One important aspect of transhumanism, and the way to gain posthumanity, is mutation:

"How human beings change themselves through technology, ideology, identity, sex, drugs, media and - of course - genital piercing. From cyborgization to memetics - from the spread of diseases to medical technology - from artificial life to extropian concerns like nanotechnology, biotechnology, longevity, intelligence drugs, and space exploration - from transgenderism to neo-dadaism, MUTATE!"

Interesting to watch but kind of scary to ponder about..I believe this can only do 1 thing...Separate us beyond mere Labels..Evolution has showed us that 2 intelligent hominoids cannot exist within the same space comfortably...and being that i will not become a mutant..I innately become the modern day Neanderthal..uhh No thanks!

    • Looks like an interesting film. Good enough trailer, but what's with slapping Philip Glass onto everything these days? I love Glass, but it seems people are just using his music to give depth to things which would otherwise be lacking...

    • Awesome, this kind of stuff is really interesting to me. For a little while now, my thoughts have been migrating towards this topic and the questions that arise. It will be pretty interesting to hear such a revered scholar's take on the idea.

    • On one hand, you have this man, and his and many others' predictions of technology and the future.

On the other hand, you have the reality of the dot.com bubble.

Somewhere in between, I suspect, lies the truth.
