    • Hello there zwan008 here for a another review, and this time it is not the game of x-men origins that I am doing it is THE ACTUAL FILM.

Now we all know the story that it is based on Hugh Jackman's character and that is the 'Bad-ass' hero 'Wolverine'. The story seems to take place within the Vietnam War, with its origins back in the early 19th century. That's when Logan/Wolverine and Victor/Sabretooth learn that they are brothers -- and have a mutation making each a feral hunting and killing machine. The two of them fight side-by-side while laboring as mercenaries in East Africa under the duplicitous Stryker, played by Brian Cox in "X2" but now portrayed by Danny Huston.

All of while something goes wrong as Hugh has a change of heart by not killing the innocent civillians when they capture the village, he then goes on the run and flees to the Canadian mountain regions were he is safe from harm by living a peaceful life with the school teacher Kayla Silverfox (Played by Lynn Collins),

Vowing for revenge for the killing of Kyla, Logan allows Stryker to perform a Dr. Frankenstein procedure on him that turns him into Weapon X, which is an indestructible killing machine(aka 'Wolverine the one we all love to know). Stryker, upset by this new weapon orders its immediate action 'DESTROY WEAPON X' But how can he it's indestructible!.

The film takes us on a wild ride by introducing us to the other mutant superheros that we know, Gambit, Emma Frost, Young Cyclops, Young Storm and even everybody's faveroute 'Fred Dukes-The Blob', it is quite entertaining in some parts But there is very little soul-searching in "Wolverine" -- almost none, in fact, Jackman's character is constantly in motion and constantly shirtless, with a scowl above his bearded jawline being as close to deep thought as the movie goes.

The action scenes are the only thing that keeps this movie alive, the fights with the other mutants, the battle between Weapon X and Weapon XI also the last big blood brother battle. The Digital effects are top-notch but too many. They become a crutch when scenes don't work and characters are inconsistent. All of while Harry Gregson-Williams' score drives the movie faster and faster, as everything gets scarified on the altar of speed.

The X-men films have come a long way by giving us the amount of fight, dramatisation and relationship scenes that we see in the cartoons today, but the fuel for the fire has to be the ultimate showdown battles of the other mutants that we all want to see these days. If Hollywood does decided to make an X-men 4 then let's just hope that the fourth movie will be the big one yet.

    • Sorry this took so long!

While it was a pretty good movie, I was disappointed by a few things:

      1) Hugh Jackman isn't aging well. Despite his amazing body, his face doesn't look so hot and it was irritating to see him as Liev Schreiber's supposed younger brother. I think they could have done a better job in makeup.

      2) There were a few special effects scenes that were very laughable. Remember that part where all the kids were running towards the helicopter at the end? WTF was with all the blurry space distortion? It looked like something out of the 80's! And a few too many explosions for my taste (I didn't think Michael Bay was a part of this movie).

      3) I didn't think will.i.am was a good fit. He's a musician, not an actor.

      Some things I loved:

      1) I totally loved the transformation from bone-claws to adamantium claws. That part where he destroyed the sink was great.

      2) The humor was well placed and added a great sense of fun to the movie.

      3) Deadpool was awesome! I'm curious as to whether he'll be in any future movies (cuz we all know he can be revived if his head is placed back onto his body).

      4) The war-time flashbacks were great. They gave he audience a true sense of the time Wolverine and Sabertooth actually lived and what finally started driving Sabertooth over the edge.

All in all I'll give it a 7 out of 10 because it was a fun movie despite a few flaws.

      Thanks for reading!

    • I was really excited about watching Wolverine Origins which is probably why I was quite disappointed.

The film, for me, acted purely as an explanatory tool and did not make me feel involved or excited about the the characters.

It was far less gripping (seems a bit of a funny word to use about comic book characters) than the other X-Men films which I highly rate.

Underdeveloped characters and relationships made me feel a bit ....blah....

However, there were some cool parts and a few tense scenes.

      Overall 6/10

    • On the upside of things X-men origins does have some wicked scenes in it like Wolverine getting his adamantium metal endoskeleton, where he get’s his jacket from and a load of action scenes that make you smile including Wolverine taking a helicopter down which is always good to see.

On the downside, I agree with FilmxtraTom, I didn’t care about any of the other characters, apart from sabretooth they introduced too many of the other mutants way too briefly, and they never got their chance to shine, gambit just about got his 15 mins, but it still wasn’t enough.

I think it was a bit of a compromise between keeping the comic book fans happy and making it more appealing to a wider audience. All in though I thought it was cool film, I would recommend it but not hype it up, it get’s a 7/10 from me.

    • Overall X-Men Origins: Wolverine is a generally good, fun movie. Yes there are a few ropey effects shots, and the ending is a bit “Meh” (there is a 30 second segment during the credits, and one at the very end - so make sure you stick around if you want the complete experience). Generally though I found the movie enjoyable, and much better to watch than Brett Ratner’s poor excuse for a movie. However I’m always of the opinion that if Bryan Singer had directed the movie it would be much better. Though it seems both Singer and Zack Snyder passed up directing the movie. I would LOVE to see a Zack Snyder-directed X-Men movie!

Anyway, go see the movie, and enjoy. If you’re a comicbook geek, try not to get too pissed off by some of the innaccuracies, and enjoy some good action.
