Wired.com has done a photographic comparison of the old-school crew that manned the U.S.S. Enterprise in the original TV series and the new, wet-behind-the-ears version.
The original update of the Enterprise, as seen in the first three Trek movies (then rebuilt for a couple more), inspired much of the look of the new movie's flagship. Just ignore the astronomical odds against the new Enterprise.

You should see what the new episode of The Hot Mess has on Star Trek's success of REALLY starting the Summer Movie Season.

Those Klingons are crazy ! Christmas with Klingons makes you wonder what they think of trees! After all they did hang candy canes on my ears! & then the Enterprise crew seems to like getting people great deals on hotels or putting glitter on people! Having only seen the ads for the new movie,I do have to wonder why I seem to see Satanist Anton LaVey in one scene! I also wonder how many Klingons speak Hebrew as a second or third language! In the first Star Trek when they filmed the opening scene with the Enterprise the ship was actually flying upside down! I found that out on reading rainbow!
The whole people in space thing seems to be a popular concept! I mean just look ! We have Star Trek,Star Wars, Battle Star, Uhhhmm...Lots of stuff with the word "Star" Star Jones! LOL
With everything in our culture today being a remake of something else, should we even bother to compare the new with the old? After all look who was chosen to play in the new Land of the Lost! - 2 years ago

Star Trek is more than a collection of movies and television shows, more than an entertainment franchise.
Star trek is the vessel for a great collective unconscious that yearns for the secular ideals of a future free of racism and religious dogmas and superstition.
Live long and prosper.

After all the spinoffs i.e. Next Generation, Deep Space 9, Voyager, Enterprise, all the video game adaptations, all the books andTrekke conventions etc. the franchise is showing its age.
This latest adaptation is an admission of this fact. It's like watching Planet of the Apes then Planet of the Apes II, III, IV, V etc. Each succeeding show dilutes the one before it until it becomes unrecognizable without the name "Star Trek". attached to it.
I will still see this movie but will view it on it's own merits, separate, and apart from the "real" Star Trek.

Something tells me that the new Kirk better practice his "Kaaahn" yell.
