Wait, what? There's gonna be an Alien remake?

Well, that's what's on the grapevine from TotalFilm (via BloodyDisgusting) Twentieth Century Fox is remaking Alien.

Apparently a reliable 'tipster' (who successfully leaked news about Robert Rodriguez producing a Predator remake) has revealed that Michael Costigan, Ridley Scott and Tony Scott are 'on board to produce.'

Hmm, is this gonna be any good?

    • terence mckenna, the one who popularized 2012 as an end date, said that history would keep replaying itself like a fractal loop circling tighter and tighter as we approached the winter solstice in 2012. i don't know if i believe him but one look at the decisions hollywood makes and i have to question whether he was right.

    • The original is a classic. It was made in a time when directors couldn't compensate for a thin plot line with over the top special effects. If they make a new one it will be an action packed, explosion filled piece of crap.

    • I'm truely torn by this news. I would love to see more aliens movies [[sci-fi loveerrr]] but remaking the original... i'm not sure that's a good idea. :/

I hope they don't mess this one up.

    • The first Alien movie is a masterpiece, a classic, a cult movie etc... Its gonna very tough to match, impossible to do better. Alien was done in color with very good special effects, and masterful horror and suspence. Its not like when they remake and old black and white movie like The Fly.
I certainly hope they won't make an exact replica like they did with Psycho. Could they find another young Sigourney Weaver ?
For many years I hoped for a sequel or a prequel that would explain the origin of these terrifying aliens. Either an artificial origin, created by genetic manipulations by some extraterrestrials for warfare use. Or a natural origin on a planet with very harsh climate.
I was very disapointed with the last 2 movies involving aliens against the ''predators'', very cheap childish movies...

      I'm in complete agreement.

We live in a day and age where special effects in film are so realistic and so beautiful, that it would be really cool to see some original pictures.

I wish film studios would appreciate the beauty of older movies instead of re-imagining them with new actors (which loses much of the appeal in my opinion).

    • As long as it is scary and has a similar feeling of isolation and despration, I'm all in. Alas hollywood will probably try and make it "sexy" to ensure it sucks. If its a remake, stay true to the story and if its an orgins story...STAY TRUE TO THE STORY! I't'll be hard to replace Sigourney IMO. I dunno what actress I love as enough to play Ripley. That is, unless they don't even have a RIpley (I know, I know, an "Alien" movie w/o Ripley is blasphemous).

    • Looks like they updated to indicate that it may be an origins story, not just a straight up remake. Which might not be quite as much of a bad idea?

    • well if ridley scott wants to remake his own movie, i dont see a problem. i dont know why they want to remake a classic when its like the easyist plot to spin off of.
