This is amazing...while it's messed up that LoTR is being used by an oppressive regime, maybe it's message will offer some comfort or inspiration to the troubled people of Iran.

LOR Really. That region has pirated copies of everything. I doubt this is going to work. That movie would make me WANT to riot. It has to be the most "I love you , you love me " uuuugh .... crap, you might as well have a veggie tales marathon. If your going to give them a marathon how about "WONDERSHOWZEN" that should give the public a real pulse on American TV. Good American TV or Bob and Dave. This is the equivalent of giving kids lowfat no sugar snacks to make them shut up. They are only going to tell you it sucks. Happens every time. Or heres a thought, stop shooting people. Tear gas works just fine, and a girl, you guys screwed up good. Look all I am saying is these people are bloodthirsty, give them what they want. You know that dog that was beaten as a puppy and it never behaved normally afterwards, behavior modification has its consequences and Im afraid in this day and age people can see that you are not the almighty government that you claim to be. Be humble, be Noble stop stepping on your people. They will thank you for it, jeesh

I wonder if the democracy in neighboring Iraq has influenced the recent events in Iran - I recall the tidal wave of democratic protests in 1989 in Eastern Europe, and as the communists dictators fell, people rejoiced on the streets. Has the use of "hard" power given confidence to the forces in Iran that desire freedom? They seem to be begging the world to step up, but no one will take a stand. I think Mr. Ahmenidjad should go bird hunting with Dick Cheney.

Agreed that this is not a good movie if you want to inspire non-decenters. My father always referenced the books when he said that, "Even when you think the largest evil is looming, the smallest hope is in place, and it is up to everyone to play their part to support it."

Second comment here.
So, Iran is advertising Brittain as the most vile and hated of enemies, protracting rage and dissent in thier streets!
So the cure is to air an American made movie that is the greatest love letter ever written to English culture after expelling Brittains diplomats?

That's hilarious, and it may even work in the short term. But it isn't something that can be sustained. Plus, if the protesters have any brains (which I'm sure they do since they are protesting) they will realize that they can have all the hollywood movies they want if their protest actually succeeds.

Never Forget Neda and Never forget this!.... President Obama speeking... "Well, I think first of all, it's important to understand that although there is amazing ferment taking place in Iran, that the difference between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi in terms of their actual policies may not be as great as has been advertised. .said right after the election right before Neda was Murderd!

Image...Braveheart was only ONE movie.. so I guess that's why they didn't choose that one.
But starwars... that would have been an interesting choice... that may be next. But then they have to deal with the "force"... (sighs)
So Lord of the Rings... with elven women that don't dress to CODE???... safe choice??? I dunno.

Evil of the world are under the Impression that Obama the leader of the free World and the Police of the World First tried to equate the two Partys in Iran in bassically the same Boat. People who love Freedom everywhere when mush brain Liberals tell you Oboma said just the right thing at the right time ask them why he Efectivilly cut the leggs out from under the Freedom Green party in Iran by on June 18th on CNBC with John Harwood he stated this Nugget!... President Obama speeking... "Well, I think first of all, it's important to understand that although there is amazing ferment taking place in Iran, that the difference between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi in terms of their actual policies may not be as great as has been advertised. Either way, we were going to be dealing with an Iranian regime that has historically been hostile to the United States, that has caused some problems in the neighborhood and is pursuing nuclear weapons" This was the Green light for the party and the Religous Leaders in Iran to do as they
Pleased with the Protesters!!! Then the long Silence!!! Then the Well lets see how all this Plays out!!! This efecvially was the Goahead for the Regime to hurry and Silence the Oppisition!!! Then the leaders of the Free World Germany France Englanda among many others Came out with Forcefull Strong remarks Condemming the Brutal tatic's of what Looks like a Unlected Regime. And Many other world Leaders were calling for Reelections
....And Then came Neda who Oboma refered to twice in his long awaited Speech strongly Condemming the Regime for what had allready happend! It is time this guy we elected Stand Up and Be counted for being on the right wside of this Fight...Time to call a Special session to The UN and unitedly do enerything Humanly possable to un do the dammage of Equating the two Partys running for Iran's Future. http://www.usembassy.it/policy/ - 3 years ago

Iranians are so well educated in the capitol...and so culturally deprived that this strategy does not surprise me. Yet...
REvolutions are like the stock market:
On the way up they are a reflectionary indicator...when they wane and are on the way down, they are a predictionary model indicator. The seed are sown now, and that's good for all the women in the Middle Eastern countries...especially Saudi Arabia.
Their methodologies will change, hopefully creating some new ones like "twitting". This should help the second most oppresses Patriarcal societies in the world in SE Asia. In that part of the world...because it's so underground/accepted in the cultures as the Caste Systems in India that I am hopeful that in my lifetime...my daughter will se a world heading towards equality between men & women.
For those who cherish the illution of equality here in the US...remember that 73% is not 100% pay.

In the Old Testament bible the story is told of how Israelites grew very clean in there appearance and this put fear in the hearts of those who opposed them. Their appearance was so clean and pure the very sight of them would crush will of the enemy.
For those who wait on the lord these skulls and body marking are a sign of weakness. A crack in the armor of mind.
