Revew: Public Enemies - in theaters

Michael Mann loves machine gun shootouts. There are no less than five tommy gun based shootouts throughout Public Enemies, a couple of them calling to mind the great bank robbery scene in Mann's opus Heat. As far as action goes, Mann is one of the best by being fairly simple. Sure, there are plenty of artful and well composed shots, but his cameras don't get shaky and jittery to emphasis the onscreen action, he just shoots the action in a way that it all makes visual and spatial sense.
