DiCaprio hunting 'Spawn'?

Todd McFarlane, the maniac behind Spiderman's Venom and Spawn, has been releasing details about his new "Spawn" movie. Comparing the film to everything from "Jaws" to "The Departed", the creator had a lot to say about his ambitious plans for a reboot of the "Spawn" movie universe.

One of the most note worthy things about his new film is the main character. Not Spawn himself, but the man chasing down Spawn. McFarlane has kept one actor in his mind more than others in his creation of this police officer: Leonardo DiCaprio.

DiCaprio won't be playing either of the detectives Spawn fans know and love, Sam and Twitch (possibly due to some other hollywood film with their names on it).

McFarlane puts some worried minds (including your humble narrator) to rest with a particular statement:
“It’s not a big special-effects movie, it’s a character movie, so I could shoot it in 40-50 days and you don’t have to budget that much time.”

    • This might not be bad. A lot of people have something against DiCaprio for one reason or another, but he's proven himself a very dynamic actor.

      They could certainly do far worse.

    • Djimon is an excellent choice! Will he be chosen is the question. It's really annoying when Hollywood chooses actors for black comic book characters. So far the only they've gotten right was Snipes for Blade!

    • Please get it right this time Todd. Spawn is such a great character but that first movie was HORRIBLE! It was to cartoonish. The character and comic deal with some dark issues and the first movie didn't do it justice. Not sure who should play Spawn though, Hounsou is definitely a good choice though. Either way I'm kind of excited to see what happens with this project.

      Oh yeah I got side tracked. DiCaprio might be good. He's turned out to be a decent actor.

    • If I could give my two cents to McFarlane regarding the casting of Spawn, I'd suggest stacked and black Dijmon Hounsou.
      But the pairing of the two actors in Blood Diamond puts a hitch in my scheme.

      I just believe Hounsou has the intensity, the voice, and the size to play a convincing Spawn.
