Moore tackles financial meltdown in 4th film

Award-winning film-maker Michael Moore has announced the title of his forthcoming documentary, which looks at the global economic meltdown.

In a statement, the Fahrenheit 9/11 director said Capitalism: A Love Story would be "be the perfect date movie".

He added: "It's got it all - lust, passion, romance and 14,000 jobs being eliminated every day."

Moore, who has made three of the top six highest-earning documentaries, will release the film in the US in October.

'Biggest swindle'

The exact date - 2 August - is a year and a day after the US Senate voted to approve a $700 billion bailout of Wall Street.

"It's a forbidden love, one that dare not speak its name. Heck, let's just say it: It's capitalism," Moore said.

In February, Moore appealed for people working on Wall Street or in the financial industry to come forward and share what they knew.

At the time he said: "Be a hero and help me expose the biggest swindle in American history."

Moore won an Academy Award for best documentary for his 2002 film Bowling for Columbine. He also received an Oscar nomination for Sicko (2007).

In 2004, Fahrenheit 9/11 won the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and went on to become the first documentary to make $100m (£61.6m) at the North American box office.

    • Current- the official home of the Michael Moore Fan Club. Every time Moore comes up with another idiotic theme for his next movie, the Mooreophites get together for another "Michael Moore Praise and Worship Fest", this year the emcee is Algor the Magnificent.

    • He'll wait in a queue and come out with a free shotgun to match his new account :) - Seriously anyone that can polarise opinions in this way is worth "investigating" - anyone with valid counter-arguments should go out and make their own documentaries and prove him wrong.

    • If Moore tries to use his age-old tactic of going into a corporation and hassling the receptionist, if he goes into a bank, he might have to wait and queue for a while.

    • Can't wait for this one. In all seriousness, he only showed stuff that was true. It maybe another attack on the Bush administration, but it's true. He's not Anti-American, he's honest. Or maybe you prefer Transformers 2 as actual fact. FoxNews doesn't guide my life.

    • I don't care for moore, but he does raise some good points in his work, but he never presents another point of view which is what all documentaries should.

    • Look, the 700 billion bailout is just the tip of the iceberg of the greatest swindle of all time. The next wave is quickly approaching. October will be too late. September is upon us and the financial meltdown will be even more devastating. Perhaps people won't be able to afford to go see his movie in October.

    • Michael Moore kicks ass. Once he'd made some money off a couple films, he started providing them for free. You can find several here, and other places:

Michael Moore does a phenomenal job of revealing the un-fucking believable crimes large corporations commit against the little guy. No wonder the right wing HATES him! They love it when corporate America sticks it up your ass!

    • I don't care for Moore. He always misdirects peoples attention from the true state of affairs by amplifying the useless details of his subject matter. Hey Moore, you're not this big revolutionary, your still controlled by the Elite!

no the elite dont control him, but they'll gladly sell him if it makes them richer. Its capitalism's ultimate weakness that makes even the controller of the means of production equal to a prostitute.

I think the saying goes: "The last capitalist we hang shall be the one who sold us the rope".

oooo...touche`. I have to say that is one of the best responses calling out my ignorance that I ever had! You are absolutely correct. Selling him not controlling. Bravo! (*I am NOT being sarcastic. I am being 100 percent honest). That is a very very interesting quote and true, very true. For if he doesn't sell us the rope, he goes from being a Capitalist to being an idealist.

    • Why won't he just go back to making films like Canadian Bacon again...I mean ya there was a political message, but we were all too drunk, stoned or high to care

So criticizing your government is anti-American?

I guess that means the founding fathers were anti-American, since they were big critics of the British government at the time.

How is it anti-American to critisize the government/Wall Street cabal? Unless you love getting screwed by Wall Street, it might be wise to give Moore the benefit of a doubt.

    • dmass5:

Since Obama is the "President", you're damn right I criticize the government. Moore criticized the gubmint when Bush was president, but since Obama got the job, he no longer finds reason to criticize the gubmint. It is one thing to criticize your country, it's something else to despise it, and have deep seated hatred for it. The only way he can make himself any more of an ass is to pull a Jane Fonda, and have tea and crumpets with Osama bin Laden.

    • Actually this is Michael Moore's seventh theatrical feature film, six of which are documentaries. Not including last year's "Slacker Uprising", which premiered on the internet, the Roger and Me followup "Pets or Meat - return to Flint", or his two series "TV Nation" and "The Awful Truth". Observe...

      Roger and Me
      Canadian Bacon
      The Big One
      Bowling for Columbine
      Fahrenheit 9/11
      Sicko
      * Slacker Uprising

I just happen to have been a MM supporter since I discovered Roger and Me in theaters back in High School. He deserves full admiration for speaking truth to power from the perspective of real people, with both humor and compassion. Even if you don't agree with every one of his positions or question some of his stunts over the years (as I do), be thankful that he's out there doing it and paving the way.
