I think our equipment is pretty much the same. I used to use a Sony miniDV camcorder, which was replaced recently by a Canon miniDV camcorder, and I also use inexpensive software on my home computer. I don't own any lights or have access to a studio. I just do what you do, use what I have to tell stories.
And I understand what you mean about various styles, I didn't mean to say that the handheld style is bad (it's my primary method) but the thing that made me comment on it in the first place was about 50 seconds into the film there are some pretty major jerks of the camera. However, I thought the first 10 seconds made very good use of both the handheld camera movement and effective editing.

Little Kiran who plays the Girl just turned 2 years old & I think she has very expressive eyes. Of course she also happens to be my niece but with or without bias she is very talented.

Easy there, thushari! My comment wasn't exactly nice, and I apologize for that, but don't accuse me of being a troll!
I'll give a more complete review of your film, and I'll make it constructive. I don't want to drag you down! I'm a nice guy, really :)
I criticized your camera work. I stand by that statement, because it was a bit too "home-movie-ish" for me. I have to be careful in saying that, becaue that is a legitimate style in and of itself, but in this film it gets a bit distracting. The viewer is always looking down on the girl from an adult's perspective, which, to me makes me feel like I'm present in the scene, and the girl is distracted by my presence. Maybe you could have shot it from closer to her eye level. That, to me, would have made a difference.
Also, I'm not attacking your piece. It has a lot going for it! Like you said, it has heart. The music gives the piece the appropriate emotion, I like the selection.
Story wise, it is simple, but simplicity can be very good. Looking at my previous comment, my allusion to story issues was misplaced.
Once again, I'm sorry that my words were harsh. I'm no hater. Forgive me?

P.S. I'm curious what you think of my film?

Hi Nate,
Yes maybe my response would have been different if you had written something more. But I don't think I was too quick to react based on what you wrote and felt that it came out of nowhere. And I stand by my original feelings about yr comment. I felt that you were just saying "oh there is a cute girl in the film but there is nothing else it besides that"
but thank you for clarifying about your take on the camera work and more on your view.
My camera is a sony mini dv
Yes it has a warm home movish feel because I don't have an expensive studio set up. it is my litte camera, home computer & inexpensive software that I use to tell a story. I sometimes use friends & family in my videos, cause they want to help in my filmmaking.
this was going to be a 10+ mintue short and my original intention was to make it a story of the spirit of the grandpa watching over
his little angel & she recognizes his spirit. but this is what it turned out.People use various ways to film, they may use a tripod, they may do handheld, they may use a crane
everyone's style is different. What matters at the end is that a story gets told.I have seen yr piece. i liked how the self consciousness is built up, i wanted to ask about the green pepper-? liked use of stone frame & camera looking through it then how he goes out behind it & fear music builds alongside the nice music which shows that intensity of his self consciousness. nice editing.

Cute girl, not much in the way of story, though, and the camera work is not good.

yes she is a cute actress. thank you for the comment, but, i don't feel that your comment is nice as a whole.
it is a filmlet told in 1min 30secs that has a beginning, middle and an ending. it is creative and blends the music well into the story. i put alot of time & effort and thought to put it together as i for most of my projects.
I think the story can be interpreted or seen in a variety of ways. sometimes stories are told in images-film is visual. one is grandpa comes to visit on special occasion, gives a gift, then goes away or pass away, &
the girl remembers him & time he was there. camera
movements shows that nothing maybe permanent.this piece has cultural aspects from my background. i am an american person (even if I wasn't)
is there a reason u are hating my piece?
why the attack?u might be scared that my piece has alot of heart!
quality of the video resolution is less though. but when i watch the video on windows media player it is a clearer picture. but the heart of the story comes through fine on this.
im very clear on this type of thing now:
it is such an old tactic where a person give a seemingly nice comment then do a heavy put down. - 2 years ago
